You stated in your listing that it works perfectly but the bearings are starting to go.If you had bought it wouldn't you expect it to work perfectly?!! If it was spares or repair then you should have stated so and not said how perfectly it works.

Edited to add - 'way too good to scrap and has a lot of life left' means it is not being sold as spairs or repair!!!

Well in that case, let the buyer return it (if they haven't damaged it), and either relist it for spares or repairs. Or change the bearings and heater element, and list it as fully working.

It sounded that way when you seemed to imply you knew it was only good for spare and repair, and you were not prepared to refund.

Non as many as some want everybody to believe....
Except for some high risk categories (white goods.. don't think so), the overwhelming majority of buyers are good, honest people.

Sorry Dognobs, but have to agree with the others here. yes, you've mentioned that it has a bearings problem, but still in perfect working order according to the description - so a buyer would not be able to tell from that it's not suitable for use as it is. Unfortunately, with things like cars etc, the working order can be tested before handing over cash - but in this case I guess that was not possible. I can't see any option other than to refund - from the buyer's perspective, there's little in it for him to come and collect a washing machine to just sting you out of 60 quid, so there's no reason to think he's anything other than genuine. I think it maybe a case of an expensive lesson learnt here to 1. list more accurately and 2. use a delivery company in future where they can take liability for any damage incurred in transportation.

The seller is still responsible to their buyers for problems with couriers, though in that case they can claim on the insurance couriers usually provide.

Otherwise, why on earth did you not put "spares or repairs" in the listing if that was what you meant? I'm sorry, the buyer is not unreasonable for wanting something that works for £60. If you had put that on the listing they might have passed you over.
