BA hand baggage allowance

I'm planning on flying to Tampa, Florida with British Airways from Gatwick. Can anybody tell me if the hand baggage allowance is 23kg as I've never seen any other airline with such a generous hand baggage allowance. I keep looking at the website and as far as I can see that's what it says, but I'd just like to make sure before I book.

Not sure where you saw 23kgs for hand baggage.

Checked baggage is 23kgs and hand baggage doesn't have a weight limit, only a size limit, as long as you can lift it unaided into the overhead lockers.

You are correct. That must have changed very recently as I checked it a few weeks ago before we flew with them and there was no weight restriction. Not that 23kgs is a restriction.

One of our hand baggage cases was 13kgs and that was quite heavy to lift into the overhead lockers.

I'm surprised the allowance is so high as that could do some serious damage if it fell on someone's head.

Thanks for that. There's no way I can put anywhere near 23kg in hand luggage and lift it and I would think if that much fell on someone it would do a lot of damage. Still, gives me plenty of space for what I buy when I'm there.

I just hope that now they have stated a weight restriction that they don't start cutting it. You used to get 2 x 23kgs hold baggage each until about 18 months ago and once that was cut to one bag we struggled to stay within the limits. We put as much heavy stuff as we could in the hand baggage and was glad there was no restriction.
