buying for a new girlfriend

My gf has never complained that a gift is "too extravagant"

I think it's fair to play it safe on your first xmas:
wine/chocs/jewellery/flowers/teddies.
My advice would be to do this, but do it well - get expensive chocs, not milk tray, good wine etc - you want to make a good impression (let her know she'll be well looked after), but without seeming to have put in a creepy amount of effort.0 -
A week! I'd save your money and would not bother.
Ask her if she's buying for you first.Regards,
Dave
If only I had a pound for every time I used the thanks button

I would get her some really nice bath/shower stuff, eg Molton Brown and chocolates. No soft toys, unless you know she likes them - yuck.0

scarf and gloves is a good idea - can never have enough.
Also wine is always good.. I'd avoid soft toys..0 -

you can't go too far wrong with Lush bath bombs as well
and as someone else said try to remember what kind of wine she drinks etc as those things mean a lot (and conversely if she only drinks white wine and you give her bottle of red then it won't go down too well)0 -
ooh I personally wouldnt go with the scarf and gloves idea (sorry) it's kinda something youd buy your aunty not a new girlfriend.
I's stick to the alcohol/nice chocs/maybe some roses? Something romantic but not OTT.0 -

He does have a point
Though I probably mean a different one to what David does
It's wise to make sure that she is buying for you as well so you don't turn up with a present (s) only to find out she's bought you nothing.
[I know, I know - giving, not recieving is the important part, but the poor love may feel mortified, I know I would!]0 -
how about perfume - ask the shop assitants which ones have been popular. Also, bottle of spirits that she has drunk that you were out was a good idea, i wouldn't go for just choc and wine - maybe 1 or the other with something else - eg perfume/ dvd. Agree £30 is about right. Even if she has spent much less on you, she won't think its strange, women normally expect the men to spend more !!0

How old is she?
Why not treat her to a nice meal out = excuse to see her again & shouldn't break the bank as I'd expect you'd be going dutch normally anyway?٩(̾●̮̮̃̾•̃̾)۶ __̴ı̴̴̡̡̡ ̡͌l̡̡̡ ̡͌l̡*̡̡ ̴̡ı̴̴̡ ̡̡͡|̲̲̲͡͡͡ ̲▫̲͡ ̲̲̲͡͡π̲̲͡͡ ̲̲͡▫̲̲͡͡ ̲|̡̡̡ ̡ ̴̡ı̴̡̡ ̡͌l̡̡̡̡0
