Hi,

I'm new to the boards so I apologise if someone has already posted a similar query or if this should be posted elsewhere (feel free to move it if so).

Anyway, for the next month I wish to contact someone who is currently on holiday in India. They've just bought an Indian SIM and I wondered if someone could tell me what would be the cheapest way to call them/get in touch?
I'm on Vodafone who charge ridiculous prices and so i've been looking at topupnow and other websites promising cheap calls (using the comparison tool available on this website). However, i'm not clued up on any of this stuff so I've no idea whether the websites are reputable or not and whether they're any good (i.e. whether i'll sign up and then get charged loads or whether the line might be fuzzy with background noise etc).

Basically I want something which will allow me to make cheap calls to India - from my mobile - and won't charge the person for receiving them (or if it does it'll cost them a minimal amount).

Any help would be much appreciated and if I have posted this in the wrong area etc then apologies.

Thanks :)

I assume you have inclusive geographical 01/02/03 minutes so you can access a geographical access number at no extra charge , if so have a look at

http://www.savacalldirect.com/ and www.localphone.com both reliable companies.

Sorry, I should have mentioned I have an iphone so changing the SIM isn't really an option. Skype isn't either as their access to a computer is limited.

    Thanks for your suggestions though.

If they're using an Indian SIM on a local network then it won't cost them anything to receive. All the charges will be borne by you.

    Hi RoJo,

If you are already with Vodafone but wish to cut down on costs of calling abroad, you should check out our Vodafone International bundle. It's an extra £5 a month and it makes the call charges to India 15p a minute to mobiles, 5p a minute to landlines and 24p per text message. You can also opt in and out of it when you so wish.

You can pay money to use Skype to ring actual phone lines! :)

Many providers with rates around 1p per minute for calls to India using a mobile phone.

    Some I came across are:
    > MO-Call.com
    > VectoneMobile.co.uk
    > Lebara-mobile.co.uk
    > Lycamobile.co.uk
    > iCardmobile.co.uk
    > Nowmobile.co.uk
    > Acecallonline.com

To call from a landline or PC check out
    > PokeTalk.com
    > Localphone.com
Then there are VoIP service providers for as little a 0.6p per minute.

    I avoid the likes of 0844 and 0911, 18185, 18866 and call1899.
Despite high lighted claims ath their websites, actual cost including connections charges, makes them expensive in comparison.
And they make charging errors and fail to put them right.
