The main thing is that the installers need to be accredited, or you will not get you FiT payments.

There are hundreds of posts in this section about the pro's and cons of the 'Rent a roof' scheme - you should read them.

The Energy Saving Trust say on average houses save £70 a year.

If you use about 50p a day(approx 5kWh) there is no way you will save £180 a year. To achieve that you would have to save that 50p every day.

Some days your panels will produce very little - less than 1kWh. Other days it will vary greatly all day, produce loads around midday and nothing at other times in the day.

It's a buyers group. Members get a full 3.84kW installation, fully installed for £7,500. No extras.

Google YSBG.
Hi

Good idea ... consolidate a number of installations into one scheme, about £2million of revenue for the operators of the scheme, so probably cover costs and make a slim, but still five figure profit is the order of play.

The only problem I would see within the timescales on the scheme is the ability to get MCS installers to play ball in the runup towards next April. My guess is that many/most installers will be quite busy at around that time and that they would prefer to satisfy their own client systems and make a substantial return than perform some subcontract work for a very small return ....

As the song goes "There may be trouble ahead .....", but if it gets off the ground I would wish it luck, but I certainly wouldn't put any money in up-front unless there was a watertight third party payment insurance scheme as it seems that noone would be dealing directly with a REAL scheme member, just a scheme manager which they most probably don't know who will project manage supplies and subcontractors ... ...

• I'm involved by the way, so I know it's kosher.

Rather you than me. Paying up front to an organisation who says you'll get £220 of electricity savings in year one isn't my cup of tea. Let alone having to suffer vat of 20% vs 5% from a supply and fit mcs company. Also paying before a survey.

What protection is offered to the money paid up to 6 months before installation?

Hi, I'm new in solar panels or modules, and I want to produce electricity? What is a FIT, and what do I need to buy?

Regards!
Hi

You could do worse than starting off by studying this site ..... http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/Generate-your-own-energy/Solar-electricity ... ;)

I'm confused why a solar installation company is doing this. I could understand if it was set up by a normal person, but this seems a little odd.
This company also uses contractors, so I'm not even sure if they have any of their own engineers.

But as far as I can see, there are no upfront costs.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.
• I've been looking at investing in solar panels rather than having the free ones. My roof is perfect for it - it's south facing plus 10 degrees, with a 30 degree pitch, no shading and no liklihood of ever being shaded.

The first quote I've had back is for £12,750. I can pay a voluntary extra £200 to warranty the invertor for 20 years. The quote is to supply the following -
Trina – TSM-185DCO1 Modules
DC and AC Isolators
3.70 kWp 20 Modules Array
Conduit as appropriate
Ofgem approved electrical generation meter
System Commissioning and warranties
Appropriately Chosen DC / AC inverter

Roof Access Equipment
On-Roof Mounting System
Making Good

The SAP figures are as follows -
Annual kWh yield 3146 kWh
Annual Kg CO2 savings 1787 kg CO2
Annual FIT payment £ 1,362.22
Annual export payment £ 48.76
Reduction in annual energy costs £ 178.76
Total benefit £ 1,589.74

Would very much appreciate any feedback on the above.

Hi

Trina modules are towards the cheaper end of the market, but seem to have a decent reputation .... You'll need to check the inverter make (Fronius from the warranty offer description ?) and ask how they intend to fix the mounting system to the roof ... roof hooks & lead flashing will sound good, drilling tiles should worry you enough to walk away.

Anyway, get a few more quotations and see what others offer, you could probabley do slightly better on price and system ....
