However, given that this was in Saga magazine, the returns look a heck of a lot better than annuity rates at the moment (which is effectively what an investment in Solar PV should be compared with). Unfortunately you are not allowed to put your pension pot into Solar Panels, but it could be a good home for the "tax-free lump sum" part.

If the export earnings are given as £59.89 and the payments arise from an estimated 50% of generation being paid at 3.1p , it follows that 3863.9 units per year are expected to be generated.

Difficult to comment on the first year as we don't know how long they were allowing FIT at 43.3p but that generation at 21p (in second full year) comes to £811.41. However, there's no way of knowing that rate of generation would actually be
    - it will probably be a bit more but could easily be less

Benefit from own use could be anything from zero to £579 (all units used to replace electricity that would otherwise have been bought at 15p per unit - a lot more then most of us probably pay but there are people who do)

    Hello Kevin & Eric
Just a little item, unrelated to Solar panels, I see from your posts that your computer's clocks are one hour fast. However they will be correct at the end of this month!

Nothing wrong with my clock, correct on my PC and showing correctly on the post. Check your forum settings and maybe the regional setting on your PC.

The time is now 12:46 GMT . My computer, mobile phone and the BBC all agree.

My last posting was around half an hour ago and was shown as being posted at 12:17 - but that should be the time taken from the MSE server rather than the poster's local time (and of course in this case they're the same)

  • Sorry Kevin - not your fault. I wonder what is wrong?
I checked the time zone on my laptop and on the Forum in use. Both are set for London and both are showing the correct time - as is the always-on screen time.

Well it says 12:17 for me! On http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/profile.php?do=editoptions, under Date and Time options, have you got "DST Correction Option" set to "Automatically detect DST settings"?

  • Thanks for that Kevin. Mine was set to "Corrections always on". I think it is badly worded as I had interpreted it to mean that it would always be corrected. I have now changed it to what you suggested.

I'm reminded of the proud mother attending her son's (Army) passing out parade : "All those soldiers are marching out of step; only my lad is keeping in time !"
