Always make sure the "10Year" Gtee is insurance backed.........Double Glazing firms come and go as they please...........They even go bust (Our Price Windows) then Hey, Presto, open up agine WITH THE SAME NAME.......... and its entirely legal...........they wont honour any Gtee, of course issued by the previous company....even if they have got the same name!!!!!!!

Insurance backed guarantees are not good. Small insurance coys, change their names and move on regularly, conditions don't usually cover if a coy goes bust. ALWAYS pay by credit or credit card. Sect 75 Consumer Credit Act gives you a double indemnity backed by the law of the land

I would avoid Anglian windows with a barge pole, I had terrible problems with the installation. The manager I dealt with in the end told me he sacked the installation team. Although the windows were ok the 4 sets of patio doors are problematic. Never did get this resolved satisfactorily with the the company.
Add to this an Anglian rep (Tracy Merrick) persuaded me to take out a GE loan which has turned out to be an absolute nightmare. I feel such a complete fool to have been suckered into this. I'll cut a long story short. I had every intention of paying for my installation outright, I was lucky enough to have the cash. But she said take a loan out and pay off amounts as dictated by her/Anglian at specified points during the year, the last payment should have been for an amount of just over £20. The reason why I decided to take out the GE loan was because Anglian said they would give me 10% of the commission they make by getting people to take out GE loans. It was only going to be a couple of hundred quid but as they say every little helps! I've just rung GE to confirm this, and they've told me that the last payment is for £128.41 because of accumulating interest.
I know, I know I feel such a fool, knew it was too good to be true.
So, if you do go with Anglian and then get a call from Tracy Merrick or any other Anglain rep. you have been warned.

GE are responsible in seeing that Anglian honour their service obligations to you. If Anglian haven't, then write to GE and ask them to sort it. Seeing as how in law you have bought the windows from them and not Anglian, they are obliged to help. Give them 2 weeks to reply.

    Hiya,

Posted on another thread, but would like a bit more input.

Could some let me know if this a good quote from Anglian for their B-rated White Knight windows?

They are quoting me £3,725 saying my windows are more expensive as my house has 2 very large bay windows to fit. The measurements of my windows are:

    Living room: 2250x1300 (three openings) + (400x1300)x2
Main Bedroom: as above, but with two openings and a vent
    2nd Bedroom: 2200x1300 (2 Openings)
    Box room: 1100x1300 (1 opening)
Bathroom: 1250x1100 (1 opening and obsured glass)

I've had a few other quotes but Anglian did a good job on my front door, and my parents house so I'm leaning towards them.
Any help would be much appreciated...

P.S Don't ever go with SafeStyle. Just had an extremely dodgy salesmen in my house and regretted ever letting him in. Basically said he'll give me a good deal £3310 as long as I have him a backhander when the job was done to make up for the commission he was losing out on!

I am told that White Knight specs are 15 years old so they should be cheap.

We are looking for windows for our Guide Hall....16 windows of varying sizes. We have had 6 quotes, ranging from £8500-ish to £15500-ish. The Anglian quote was £10500-ish and their windows looked good.

Our lowest quote was from a local joiner/builder, some £8500, he is using the same windows as our next up quote...Veka windows......the next quote is £1000 more. We are thinking to go with thje lowest quote.

The windows look lovely, the glass is what we want, the handles work how we want.

The Anglian quote was good too......just not as good as this one (I hope!)

It is a huge responsibility spending someone else's money.

Just make sure you pay with a credit card, then your guarantees are underwritten - for free. If they won't take a credit card then ask yourself what it is that the Banks know about them that you don't!
  • I won a offer of 30% off in an online competition they were doing, they started pricing the french doors at £2300, before coming down to £1300. I could not believe it, that is £500 dearer than the most expensive local company full installed.

To be honest, do not waste your time unless you also like wasting your money.

I have recently received a quote from Anglian and wonder if your local guy is still in business. If so, would you mind giving me his contact details? Thanks a lot. Stewart.

Always go by word of mouth when buying DG.

I had Anglia visit for a quote and it came in at £14,750 which apparently INCLUDED a 30% discount!!!!

I remembered an old friend who took over his fathers DG business, gave him a call and he recently finished fitting 8 large windows, back door, 3 large bays, one pair of patio doors and a small windows for £5,100!!!!!!!!

The windows all came from the same manufacturers as the Anglian windows but as his overheads were smaller he didnt have to add on the extra £9,000!

Well worth looking at smaller companies but only if you get good feedback from word of mouth.

Where abots are you? If in Exeter, Devon I can get you his number.....?

    :rotfl: :T :j
  • AVOID THIS BUNCH OF COWBOYS LIKE THE PLAGUE. When we moved into our home 18 months ago Anglian had, within the previous 6 months, installed pvc guttering and bargeboards on the gable ends of our bungalow. Within 2 months of moving in I noticed that a gap was appearing between the lower end of one barge board and the front soffit. On closer examination it was very obvious that this bunch of incompetent idiots had put the barge boards onto rotting timber framing overhangs. Both gable end overhangs and barge boards had to be replaced at a cost of nearly £3000. When I contacted Anglian surprise surprise they stated that guarentees for construction work was not covered by FENSA and therefore could not be transferred when the house changed hands.
  • Hello everyone,
could someone give me a reliable company with a decent price for double glazing windows in east London !!!
