We have a Britax evolva 123- supposed to be able to put them in it from 9 months and then lasts till they've finished with high back booster with seat belt- BUT Im not sure I would want to put my 9 month old in it- its pretty big and doesnt recline much. We got it when DSD was about 2 and a half (she is small though).

There is a Britax one which is rear facing for 9months + for a few more months (not as long as 4 yrs though) and then turn to be forward facing- its no where near as expensive as the one shown in the pic (although that does looko great) so may be worth considering if the expensive one is too much- it would give u a bit longer rear facing which has gotta be better than nothing

I've just had my twins (8 weeks prem) and was just wondering how long they would stay in their 0+ car seat- as one of the other posters said- it might be a long time (they only weigh 3 pounds)

Just looked up the one i was thinking of- was the first class plus- but actually I think its only rear facing to 13kg- same a most 0+ stage- so no good

Looked at teh multitec though- as suggest by another poster and that looks great- think we might get those when the time comes :-)

The Britax 2-Way is, as its name suggests, rear-facing then can be turned forward-facing and will last to ~25kg (6 years). I can't remember how much it was, but similar in price to other popular brands. My twins have been in it since 13 months and are still rear-facing at 2.5 years.

See purplegirl's and my posts above for where to buy.

    hi all,

we're looking for exactly the same thing right now. we've got a maxi-cosi cabriofix and family fix base and will be needing the next size up very soon. i was assuming i had to go forward facing until i read this! but now im sold on keeping rear facing as long as possible... so britax is the way to go it seems...

ive seen the 'multi tech 2' on their website but the '2 way elite' isnt listed... ive found reviews of it though.. is it an old model now or something? and can anyone tell me the difference between these two models?

    thanks all.. amazingly helpful!

Another vote for Brittax here! We had the Prince, bit more expensive than some but sturdy and safe. I had to put DS foward facing at about 9 months as he is a really tall child with long gangly legs! Mothercare fitted the seat for me free of charge which meant I knew it was fitted correctly.

You won't find it on their British website because it's not marketed for the UK:eek: as it is considered not commonplace to keep babies rear-facing here after Group 0! You will need to ask at one of the specialist car seat places like in the links above.

We have the Britax 123 Evolva too for both our boys as it works out cheaper in the long term. It turns from a 9month plus one to a booster seat.

A lot will depend on your child's height and weight. My boys were very tall so needed to be in the next size up at around 9 months
Thank you to everyone for sharing competitions!

    I've always stayed with Britax.

Me too- always been good and as they change the colours etc. relatively frequently so you can often get some good bargains for old colours

There is no reason to turn a baby this young just because they are tall!!!! Its not about baby size but about neck and head strength. This can be dangerous.

Also, to others who feel they need to turn babies too early just because they are screaming are also putting young babies in danger. They get over it and if not then find a better way to entertain them. It most likely has nothing to do with rear facing.

It very upsetting that there is no clear law defining what to do and the main reason for turning early was based on a trend.....sad.

Sorry this all sounds harsh but it should, this is about the lives of our children

If you have isofix then I'd recommend getting an isofix chair, as it takes only seconds to transfer them from one car to another. I'd also recommend keeping them in the rear-facing chair until they are around 1.

Both our kids have Britax isofix chairs.
