Yep, the article said how the high street was in decline. Tescos certainly do have a big share of that guilt.

How many of us go there now for our appliances, mobiles, groceries, bread, gifts, houseware, clothes.......?

I feel sad to think how we have all been taken in by the 'convenience' of Mr Ts but are now paying the price of having our other shopping alternatives disappear one by one.

    Thorntons, eh?
Not a good thing. It's as much part of our high street as good old woolworths was :(

Very true. I am trying to shop in tescos less, but the 1p items and glitches keep pulling me in daily and it so easy to pick up a few other bits while I'm there.

I certainly wont be needing any more chocolates for a while after all the 1p roses courtesy of mr t

Sorry, just been looking for more on this and it would appear that they are just downsizing their shops and are hoping to concentrate more on their internet sales.

That would make more sense - my local Hermes courier told me recently that the bulk of her deliveries used to be from NEXT but now it's Thornton's, which I was quite surprised to hear!

Tesco will rule the world sooner that we think!

Ever more likely when the likes of Thornton's sell their choccies to Tesco and other supermarkets to compete against their own town centre shops. Not very bright is it??? If Thornton's want to sell through the superstores, then they should have already closed their shops - you can't be a retailer and at the same time wholesale/distribute to your own competition. Thornton's must have made a conscious decision to devalue their brand by selling into the supermarkets - surely they realised that doing so would have a knock-on effect on their retail outlets?

Always thought Thorntons had too many shops, there are 3 in the centre of Bristol when one slightly larger shop would do.

Most thorntons chocs a carp anyway but nevertheless its a shame more people are losing their jobs :( It does make sense for them to be closing down the shops they own though and just in a sense letting the franchies take the future hit. There's two thorntons in Norwich which is abit pointless as they are both badly placed in the city really.

have noticed a lot of the supermarket / corner stores have been selling the boxes of Thorntons lately
..it said on a report they had secured a bank loan but still downsizing stores over 3 years ...will likely be the smaller stores
