They aren't going into administration. They have a combination of shops owned and operated by Thorntons themselves, and shops operated by Franchisees. The shops they plan to close are the ones not operated by franchisees, and will be closed as current leases expire over the next year +. The rest of the business will keep going and you'll still be able to buy at supermarkets, online, etc, so I wouldn't expect any big closing down / going out of business sales. Better news coverage was on BBC.0

....and what on earth is the post doing in 'quick grabbit.....'?0

They haven't gone into administration, they are just closing up to 180 stores over the next few years as leases expire!
you should change the title & post OP!
Exactly - rumour mongering could cause a stampede to the stores and may cause upset for staff (although it looks like many are going to lose their jobs, at least it won't affect all staff)0 -

Yep, the article said how the high street was in decline. Tescos certainly do have a big share of that guilt.
How many of us go there now for our appliances, mobiles, groceries, bread, gifts, houseware, clothes.......?
I feel sad to think how we have all been taken in by the 'convenience' of Mr Ts but are now paying the price of having our other shopping alternatives disappear one by one.
Thorntons, eh?
Not a good thing. It's as much part of our high street as good old woolworths was

Anyone have a list of the stores that will close? I expect my local one will - last time I went there on mothers day it was closed, surely they should be open on one of the biggest days of the year for chocolate buying?
Sad news for lots of their employees. These high street shops seem to be dropping like flies at the moment0 -
The last few times we have been given a box of Thorntons, we have been extremely disappointed with it (and DW LOVES chocolate), so part of me is not surprised by this.I don't want to achieve immortality through my work, I want to achieve it through not dying0
