A few weeks ago I splashed out and bought myself a lovely range style cooker (costing £700). The problem is it has these lovely chrome handles and the dog had decided to chew one of them and now it is all sratched by little puppy teeth  . I there anything that I can do to bring back the shine and if not get rid of the scratches, make them less noticable. Hubby will go mad when he sees it - he hates the dog as it is.

Get intouch with where you bought it and ask them to send you a replacement handle.
I did that a whole 18 months after I bought my hob, as the numbers on the knobs faded, I went back to the shop and was expecting to pay, but they said cause I had the hob for less than 2 years they will give me rplacement knobs.
I had the cheek to go back in about 2 years after that and just enquire, again they sent me replacement knobs FOC.:D
  • This stuff is very slightly abrasive .
If you had a drill and a buffing wheel attachment it would be even better. All depends on how deep the scratch is.

  • It really depends if it is chrome or if its plastic that has been painted over with chrome-style paint.

If it is chrome, T-cut might be worth a try, but I suspect (having had a similar cooker at one time) that it might be chrome paint. You could try buying a tin of metallic touch up paint and carefully apply.

Bottom line, you might need to keep hubby distracted so he doesn't notice and then stump up for a replacement knob from the manufacturer (order from parts supplier online).

Ask your insurance company if they cover it...?

  • If it is actual real chrome plate then try a tube of Autoglyst. You get it from car accessories shops and it is fab and works wonders. It costs about £3-4 and a little goes a very long way.

However I suspect it would only be chrome paint over plastic in which case it wouldn't help, sorry. You can get cans of chrome finish paint, again from Homebase, B&Q etc or car shops but you'll have to take the knob off the cooker and remove all the old paint so it is extremely smooth before re-spraying. If the surface isn't prepared perfectly it will look awful.

I wouldn't have thought a new knob would have been very expensive?

    Hiya :)

This thread is actually duplicated on the In My Home board so I shall move it across to keep all the answers in one place.

    Good luck :)
