Best International postal service which qualifies for Paypal Seller Protection

I did my research before selling. It was a UK only auction offering a UK postage option only. A foreign bidder messaged me to ask would I open the auction to international bidders and I said no.
Then 5 seconds from the auction end a German somehow manages to bid and wins the item. I presume foreign bidders just bid on the chance you will just give them a postage option after the auction finishes. I assume they are not physically not blocked from bidding because this guy managed to bid.
If I knew foreigners can still bid anyway I would have opened the auction up to international bidders to get a higher price.
However, the lesson is sending high value small items overseas in a way which meets the criteria for paypal seller protection is nigh on impossible so better to make the auction UK only but it might be an idea to state in hugh letters 'UK bidders only' because some foreigners seem to bid anyway.
Thanks to all who replied.
they aren't if you dont block them0 -

It doesn't look like you actually did your research properly, as you should have blocked foreign countries, they are not blocked automatically by offering just UK postage.
When you are new to selling mistakes can happen, but in your case it could be a very expensive one.0 -
I sold a small item on ebay for £800 and need to send it to Germany. Which postal service will meet the requirements for Paypal seller protection.
.
I used Parcelmonkey to send a laptop to Germany via DHL. Cost me £15 OTTOMH and was delivered within 3 days. The online tracking for DHL is excellent.0 -
For £800 I'd fly over to hand deliver it myself. (j/k, but seriously...)
For that amount of money, there must be enough in the kitty to pay for quite a good courier."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

I think you need to approach different carriers and see if you can find one who will cover it with their insurance.0

What and leave yourself open to an INR dispute?....:rotfl:

Op - You didn't state overseas postage as an option so presumably you didn't quote postage costs? Effectively you could charge what you wanted to get it there - the buyer should have checked the P&P cost with you prior to biding!0
