'Charity' collectors want to come in your house?!

This is a new one on me...
A man came to the door saying he was working for this 'new charity' and he wanted to 'come in and discuss it'. Had nothing but a clipboard, no ID or anything to show me at the door.
I told him no and he scuttled off to the next door I assume.
I've never had this before, anyone used to this?!

I have had them edge closer to the door as if they want me to invite them in.
I never buy anything at the door, and I've even had a collector call me a w*****r before! These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!
I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!0 -
Ask them how much commision they're on if they make a 'sale'......works for me!0

The key for them is to get their foot in the door. Once they are in you are a more amenable target to their sales pitch. The man without a signature.0

The key is for them to rattle off about some charity when checking out what kit (TV, Hi-Fi etc) you've got in your front room for then to worth adding your house to a list of potential targets to rob.0

Hmmm.
More likely to be the type of charity collector that works for one of the companies that are always getting a slating on the "Employment & Job Seeking" board hoping to get you to sign up to a direct debit.0 -
I got a high-five off a collector before when I said I already DDed to their charity (and I actually do, for once!). Lovely chap and really made me smile.Comping wins this month: 2 x business class flights anywhere we like | Horse vitamins (!) | New kettle | Motorcycling prints | Signed LPs | Thanks to all!0

they wouldnt get past my front door.
Had someone doing one of those inane consumer surveys a while back. He had a computerised touch screen, I reluctantly agreed to do survey, then he wanted to come in so he could lean it somewhere. I told him I was busy and doorstep was fine. Why this is deemed essential consumer research I do not know, an email could have done the job..!0 -
Could easily have been from the ""Help myself"" charity and would have come back fro a donation once you were out.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

In agree with peter ...sounds very dodgy to me...... If no ID, phone the police because there are a lot of vunerable people who could fall for this scam.
My general rule of thumb is if I don't know you and you don't have an appointment or ID ........sling your hook!
I then phone the police and they usually send out PC's to stop these people and find out if they are legit or not.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
