Laptop keeps crashing on start up, help please

it also keeps putting horizontal lines through my curser, or on the whole screen, this comes and goes if i get it to actually start up.

What's the make of laptop?

You might need to get up to date graphics drivers.

Try going to Nvidia.com and try this scan http://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/Scan.aspx?lang=en-uk
It will let you know if it's got an Nvidia card.

This is the drivers for the Intel Graphics.

Either way make sure you've got the latest version installed and see if the lines on screen come back...

Tried reloading os XP Pro but has not made any difference, not sure if related but the battery is shot and it seems to be overheating as it gets very hot underneath, more than it usually is.

What message is mentioned in the bluescreen. If it's at or near startup, could be Avast, e.g. does it say for example "...a crash has been caused by aswSP.sys". This can help pinpoint the source better than anything we can say.

Have you done the usual malware checks? e.g. Malwarebytes, TDSSkiller, etc

Try uninstalling all those toolbars.

What was the domain in the link here as it could be important:

Whats the service tag for the laptop, it could have nvidia graphics, this model if it has nvidia graphics is prone to graphics failure, meaning the laptop needs the gpu reballing or a motherboard replacement....

Yes i think it does have the nvidia graphics gpu, i found this on e-bay for £85 inc courier pick up and return which desribes the problem to a tee, is this a reasonable cost for repair ? is it worth it considering it is 5 years old

Also when I reball and replace a graphics chip I install a "100% COPPER" plate which by placing between the graphics chip and heatsink will reduce the temperature of the graphics chip ensuring it is as stable as can be. I also use ARCTIC SILVER 5 thermal compound between the CPU & CPU heatsink, Nvidia/ATI chip & copper shim, copper shim & GPU heatsink ensuring best possible connection/performance.

Take a look at the pictures provided which show a bad graphics chip which has been removed, a newly reballed graphics chip and the work station that I use for all reballing repairs. I have also provided some pictures of the preparation process before reassembled. I dont cut any corners as I'm a professional.

Sometimes the chip its self can be damaged which is extremely rare so I offer a NO FIX NO FEE service which excludes postage. If the laptop is not repairable I will refund your payment back minus the collection & return costs which will be £20 in total (£10 each way)

It will get it working (assuming the damage is not to bad already and the seller can do what they claim).

But they dont seem to mention warranty, it could re-occur a few months later, many people who do offer warranties only offer a short one, probably because they know its going to fail again.

How long ago did your warranty run out, if its less than a year ago you can still get this sorted.

Make sure your BIOS is upto date, as one of the revisions helps stall this issue by altering the fan profile.

For 85 quid, you could probably get a replacement motherboard after a while on ebay (quick search showed they are about 100 at the mo, but often come along cheaper) which has intel graphics, and would not suffer from this problem again.

Check your warranty, see if it ran out less than a year ago, as their was a class action suit, I can pm you the details if need be.
