17 year old son needs car insurance

I find Churchill cheapest, my brother finds Aviva give good quotes on most cars.
Edit: Re excesses, I have this great idea.... not causing accidents. If I don't cause an accident, I keep my NCB, don't have to pay an excess and don't risk getting points/rising insurance rates. Great idea
Look at less fashionable cars - as 19 I insure a 1.6 megane, monthly, for about £900 a year - 2 years NCB.
A small engined saxo/clio would be almost twice as much due to the fact of the boy racer rep.
My brother insures his old landy fairly cheaply.
FWIW, I'm fed up of the people who want the ages putting up - as to something like 25, anyone who wants to work and doesn't live in a city would be screwed. Most of the people my age (19) in my village wouldn't be able to get to work as the buses from my not-so-small village are so unreliable. It's not like 40 years ago where our village was half the size and had twice as many shops - times have changed.0 -

Cheaper not to have insurance, it's only a $100 fine if your caught!
I too think 17 yr old's are to young. 21 should be the limit! That is just my opinion though.
Good luck finding an insurance company, but to make you aware, what is a good deal for one, may not be a good deal for another.
£200 fine
6 points on your license (means it being revoked if you passed within the last 2 years)
and insurance companies won't touch you in the future.0 -

Not true, girls have more accidents, boys have more expensive accidents.
I will say I did pass plus back in the day and it gained my 1 years NCB with many insurers.
As for cars I do believe the old 1.0 corsas are one of the best for cheap insurance.
Ideally I would say wait until he is 18-20 really as it will make a difference.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017
Quit day job to run 3 businesses 08/02/2017
Started third business 25/06/2016

No 17 year should be behind the wheel of a car in my opinion. The higher the insurance the better

Riddiculous thing to say....Well in my opinion, plenty of middle aged people shouldn't be either but the law's the law
Hahaha I agree... the test was so much easier for people who took it prior to 1990's!!!I've always found having an older driver on my insurance has kept the premimum lower (by several hundred pounds before I was 21), so maybe you could be a named driver on his policy?
I was the same, had my own car and my own policy, but insured M&D on it as they kept my premium lower by a few hundred...cyclingyorkie wrote: »Boys are more expensive than girls to insure - they have more accidents and therefore are a greater risk..
This is not true now... the law changed in June and it is against the law for insurance companies to discriminate based on wether you are M of F... so they have just raised the price of girls insurance.Cheaper not to have insurance, it's only a $100 fine if your caught!
Unbelievable... you are a total idiot... do you know the cost for living for somebody who is paralysed for the rest of their life? In the millions.... If you as a driver do not have basic TP insurance as required in the law you are potentially denying another individual the right to try and live as normal life as possible after you nearly killed them and they are no longer able to do anything for themselves... you won't be laughing when you are in a wheelchair being fed through a straw with no compensation because an uninsured driver hit you ...:jBaby Boy born December 2012

Of course, the up side of no insurance is that the driver may be more motivated not to do this to someone ....Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Aviva was the cheapest for my son at 19 and the premiums didn't rise when he passed his test. Not sure about the excess because he hasn't had an accident. His premiums didn't change the following year though despite having a years NCB. I guess that is due to the general rise in insurance though.0
