Santander cancelled my cards

So, Santander canceled my current account and credit cards on the same day without informing me. I was left in a petrol station, away from home, with no means to pay. Had to borrow funds from a very kind gent once I'd give him my name, address, telephone number, etc.
Santander also claimed they'd been trying to call me on my mobile and landline for three days yet I had not one missed call nor message on either phone and they confirmed they have the correct numbers.
Thank God my savings card still works (which I never usually take out of the house) or I'd be borrowing from friends.
Their reason was that numerous large transactions (£1000+) had apparently been attempted on my current account. I guess I should be thankful really but still very frustrating.

I've just had a very odd experience with Cahoot (Santander). They've just emailed me to ask that I contact them ASAP as they have been trying to contact me recently to verify recent transactions on my account. Until I do, they have restricted my card. However, I closed all of my accounts with them last year! Thus far they have been unable to explain why they have sent the email and they have confirmed that their system is showing that all of my accounts are in fact closed!! Very odd ....0 -
Always carry (for emergencey use only):
1. Some spare cash hidden away ( just Like Maverick did).
2. Another card (debit or credit),preferably from a different bank.
I have been sorry on those occations I did not keep to these 2 simple rules!0 -
Moral of this story 2
Avoid Santander like the plague.I have a deep burning indifference0 -
Or look at it as they have just saved you (and themselves) from being defrauded by thousands of pounds. Would you be as upset with them if they had not cancelled your cards?0

That sounds like a scam email to me - verify the number by using Cahoots website if you do follow this up. Do not contact them through any links in the email or any contact details in the email unless verified by their official website.0 -
