http://www.lloydstsb.com/internet_banking/payments.asp 25k (I did 21k a min ago. A nano second to Santander) and I've heard that the Faster Payments facility has been withdrawn, while they integrate the two systems.

Others haven't confirmed this, but certainly I've seen the system degrading over the past few months, to the point that it's almost pointless trying it anymore

Lloyds FPs are working for me right now. So are HBOS FPs, but their success is very variable.

I have tried to do a faster payment today for £500 (smaller amount as previously suggested) but it wasn't having none of it.

I did call yesterday to see if they would waive the CHAPS fee but they just said that the faster payment service is not guaranteed so they wouldn't do the transfer for free.

I have never had any problems before so it was just frustrating as I needed to have the money in my Lloyds account today. Oh well lesson learnt - allow more time to transfer money between accounts.

The banks do not really want FP do they? I mean it speeds up payments (removing the need for chaps up to a certain limit) and therefore they do not recioeve the chaps fees.

They also lose out on the float from a DD. Not surprised their processes are in a bit of a mess.

Can't they do the Faster Payments over the phone/tele banking. The only way I managed a FP of 3k the other day was in a branch of Halifax, where I was told that the system is being withdrawn. Tele and in branch limit is 1k per transaction. They made 4 separate ones for me, while I watched them.. It's all the same system, as I understand it

I asked them yesterday to do it for me over the telephone (as I was at work and couldn't get to a branch) and I was told no they couldn't. The only way they would do it for me was if I paid the £25 CHAPS fee. I explained that I didn't want to pay for something that I could do for free and that if the system wasn't down then why wasn't it allowing me to do it via my internet banking. I was just told that the service is not guaranteed???

Was this after allowing a full 24 hours after previous attempts, I wonder?

The suggestion was to 'accept' the the CHAPS fee - in order get the payment that was 'time critical' actually made - and then (once done) to ask for HBOS for a fee refund anyway, giving the fact that FP was working for other customers at the time it wasn't working for you. That would make for a very interesting response..
.....under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam

Bear in mind when doing CHAPS with HBOS now that it cant be done over the phone anymore on most accounts. :)
