Time delay on Halifax transferring

Options
Hopefully one of you experts can explain this one:

Some times i'll go to transfer from Halifax & it'll not let me do it on the selected date. I have to pick days ahead of it instead. This happened the other day:

31st May, the gf tried transferring 1k out of her Halifax account to her Santander account, arranged to go ahead on 1st June. It wouldn't allow it & said next available date is the 2nd. So she had to select this.

Yesterday, i went to make a 1k switch from my Halifax to Santander account - i filled it out to go ahead that day (i.e. the 1st June) & it went with no bother, credited instantly.

Why did she have a delay, whereas mine went ahead no problem? Both 1k transfers out of the same Halifax account (not same-same, but same type of account).

Yeah there's the other one - i've noticed it with TSB also, but my main banking is with Halifax, so i notice it with them more.

I guess it's just "one of them things" ey? It either happens or it doesn't?
  • It is to do with their 'funny' system.

As you are probably aware, there are 2 payment types, Faster Payments (FP) and BACS (3 days, inclusive of day money debited from account).

Somehow for Halifax, the BACS must be set to leave the account 'the next day'. And if you were to select the next day after a certain time (in the evening), it is regarded as 'the next day' already by the bank hence you can only make a payment the-day-after-the-next-day.

Halifax is quite random in choosing which payments go by FP and which go by BACS. If FP can't happen at that occasion, they will ask you to choose a different date (meaning it will go by BACS).

    A few suggestions:
    a. Just try again in a while. The previously disallowed FP will suddenly be allowed again.
    b. Split the amount into smaller amounts. Say £600 and £400.

I did try the smaller amounts thing, but it didn't help any.

Either way, thanks for the reply.

I get it but for me it depends whether its a sunday or bank holiday. I can't set things up for faster payments on those days

3 days in a row and can't send faster payments of any amount (been trying £100). Very annoying.

I tried to send a Halifax faster payment at 10:30am yesterday. The system defaulted to BACS. This is totally useless given the approaching weekend.

Persistence paid off when I tried again at 2:30pm. Faster Payments outward from Halifax can be a hit or miss process.

I've been informed in branch (Sat 18th) that the faster payments facility at HBOS, is being withdrawn, totally.
This by a member of staff and confirmed by the manager. There is no message about this within online banking, nor was I informed of this by phone.
Surely this warrants a major publicity announcement before they do this. No date was provided, but it has already ceased. This would seem to be backed up by the fact that no matter what amount I chose (up to the online FPS limit of 2,500), it purely the luck of the draw at the exact nano second I click it, as to whether it will go through or not. On the phone he was not able to do it, but in the branch they were (separate clicks of their 1,000 limit, up to the amount I required).
I only went to the branch because I was unable to do it online. I'd been trying without success for nigh on three days.

Has anybody else been informed of the total withdrawal, of system?

No, and I sent a payment this morning by FP and it went no problem. I did read on another thread about the limit being reduced once HBOS systems are merged with Lloyds, but haven't heard anything about it being withdrawn completely
Debt free and staying that way!
