  • The business I am in is quite specific.

I thought about a second job, but I do not drive and also I am diabetic and it can make me very tired and I am not sure how my body would react to that. I am not making excuses at all as I work hard, I am at work for 730 every day (mon to fri) and go to the gym straight from work to keep my body fit, so dont get in until 730/8ish, so by the time iv done housework, showered, made dinner I often dont sit down until gone 9.

When you and your partner split you are going to have to significantly increase your income or significantly decrease your outgoings preferably both so you are going to have to make some big sacrifices to be able to manage on your own.

Thats my thoughts too! I don't think the OP is being realistic enough.

You talk about not being able to afford toiletries, but these can come out of your shopping budget - you just economise wherever possible until you see a little light at the end of the tunnel.

If you are serious about a lodger, I'd say you should be including all bills in the package too - so £450 for everything. It still leaves you £300 to find and all the bills so by my reckoning about £500, can you afford that?

If not, then a 2nd job might be the answer.

I really hope it works out for you both. Its good you are doing research on what might happen if it doesn't work out and don't stay with him just for the financial reasons of course, but obviously it also sounds like you are not yet ready to split.

As you think that things might not work out long term I would just say its worth making sure you don't sign up for any more agreements/contracts and don't put anything more into your name for your partner.
And also if you can focus on paying off whatever you can whilst you are still together this will help you, as it seems it will be your debs/arrears that will cause you the financial issues if you did live on your own as much as anything else.

On a different issue -regarding your £50 overdraft fees a month - what are these? is it made up of daily charges? how much is your overdraft? are you in it all month? what is the balance it gets to just before payday?

Do yu really need a landline, £30 is a lot if you have a mobile.
If you really need a landline for internet etc. Stop using it to make calls, then its down to about £12 or so.

Can you move in with a relative? My sons marriage broke down and he moved back in with me. It only costs him £300 a month for everything except transport.

£12??? Bt line rental is now £13.90 plus £4.70 for unlimited landline calls plus £25.60 for unlimited broadband. Package discount of -£2.30. Total of £41.90. I'm assuming all mobile calls are made using the inclusive minutes on the mobile and no international calls or calls to other chargeable numbers are made. £30 a month isn't much. Sorry, it's only my opinion. I'd like a bill that small.

My point about moving is that you may not find woneone will to pay you 400 a month. and for them to be 'safe' or their friends 'safe'. And how long will it take you to find one? You could be paying the wwhole 750 a month yourself. A couple of months of this could really knock you down.

You might have to move to a whole different area if there isn't one nearby where you would be 'safe'.
