  • they are different, trust me I got in trouble before because I thought I only had to pay one. But one is for sewage and one is for actually drinking water I think.
  • Ok I have re done, with some of your suggestions, hope my workings out are correct, a bit distressed right now..

    My salary - £1450
    Lodger - £400
    Total - £1850

    Monthly Outgoings:

    Mortgage/Rent - £750
    Council Tax - £100
    Council Tax owed - £40
    Gas - £30
    Electric - £30
    TV License - £12.50
    BT - £30
    Mobile - £50
    Food - £70
    Water - £60
Owed gas and electric - £80
    Family Loans - £310
    Credit card - £150
    Overdraft - £50
    Travel - £40 - if I get myself a bike.
    Gym - £20

    = £1822.12

    left = £27.88

This is assuming I can rent the room out at that price. Maybe foreign students, they pay a bit more I think.

hmm not sure how I will buy stuff like toiletres and things like tights that I will need for work etc. And no social life. How do people live on £27.88 disposable income?

Could you rent out one of the downstairs reception rooms as a bedroom too? Do you have a garage or parking space you could rent?

  • there is a car park, with an allocated space, but the car park is always practically empty as there is lots of space on the streets. So I do not think anyone would rent it. Where I live is a bit strange too, its kind of out of the way and there is LOADS of parking and car parks etc.

The flat I live in is also rented, so I would have to speak to the landlord about subletting the rooms. Not sure how she would feel about letting out the lounge too. the lay out is a bit strange too. Lounge is upstairs and bedrooms down stairs. and you couldnt get a bed up there as the rooms are strange shapes. It took me about 5 attempts to get the lounge layout right due to its shape.

I did think I could swap rooms though and rent out my bedroom as I would probably get a little more for it as it has a balcony attached. So might get £450 for it if I was lucky.

I was thinking you were paying a mortgage not rent. I think you will need to leave and be a lodger yourself. Paying only £300 rent would make a big difference to you and enable you to continue paying all your debts and not let any family members down. Surely that would be worth it as when your debts are clear you can find a place of your own.

  • i dont think the landlady will mind me subletting one room, especially if I explain the circumstances. It would cost her more to say no.

Plus you have no hope in hell of renting anywhere for £300 a month round here. I just checked rightmove and its only Studant accomodation you can get at that price.

In which case report him for theft.

If he thinks you are a walk over, he will just carry on abusing you.

Take the bl&&&&dy phone off him. If he tries to leave, report it stolen and get it cancelled. Why not speak to the provider now.

I used to work for O2. I dont know what the other providers are like, but if the phone and the contract are in your name, the second he walks out that door, report it stolen and demand that it is BLACKLISTED. This is important. If you just report it stolen, nothing very much will happen. If the phone (which has a unique number called an IMEI) is blacklisted, he wont be able to use it with any SIM chip, ever. The phone will be a brick. He might as well give it back to you. Tell him you will do this. Get onto the phone provider and lock him out of the account via DPA. Tell them you are in a messy split and you revoke his access to the account. They will ask you for new passwords to protect the account and remove his entitlement to bills etc. Once you've done this, he cant get into the account to unblock it and you have it blacklisted so he cannot use it.

I agree with the above, the phone belongs to you. And you can't afford 50 a month for yours either. If you split, get the phone back. If you can't, blacklist. And get both contracts lowered. Most contracts can be downgraded ( i just downgraded an iphone contract).

And you have to move. You cannot afford to stay there. And yu may have to temporarily suspend payments to your uncle til you get your highest debt paid off. I know you don't want to hear this, but you need to hear it. Family gets paid after higher debts are repaid. If you get into real difficulties and went 'official' this would happen.
  • thanks you for your comments.

But I cannot afford to move, I am better off renting my spare room out, infact I will be worse off financially if I move then if I stay where I am.

Moving out I could get somewhere for around 400 but it will be the pits, not somewhere I would feel safe living as a single 28 year old woman, who does not drive. Plus I have to find the deposit, rent up front, agent fees.

If I rent a room in someones house, I am looking at at the very least 300 pounds, plus where will I store all my current furniture? Storage costs money, no one I know has any storage space/garage. If I sell the stuff when I move into my own place again I would need to spend money to purchase it all again.

If I stay where I am, I pay 750 a month, if I get at least 400 from a lodger, that is only 350 left for me to pay in rent. So really it is not benefical for me to move.

Plus I do not think I am in the right frame of mind to actually go through a whole move again.

Remember if you are a lodger the rent is all in, no council tax, water, gas, electricity etc.

How about getting a second job? Maybe cleaning or something you can do in addition to your other job. What is your job do you have any skills that can earn you money outside of your normal job? Bookkeeping for example.
