Can I get TV sound on a Sony surround system?

Is there a way to connect my TV (Samsung PS51D550) to Sony surround (DAV DZ280)?
I have a Humax Freesat box connected to the Sony with a scart socket which works for Freesat, although I don’t know what is output (stereo, Dolby 5.1, Dolby digital ?), but can’t find a way to get the TV output to the surround system.
The Sony doesn’t have an optical socket for the sound. The only other sockets seem to be the HDMI (connected to the TV) and the scart which is connected to the Humax.
If I want to watch TV using the built in Freeview receiver I seem to be stuck with the TV’s speakers.

You'd need an AV Receiver. Surround sound units normally just have output whereas you require a system with an input.0

I was just about to type "surely there is something, even a couple of phono plugs you could have dropped from the TV Headphone socket", but I thought I'd have a quick look first.
There's nothing!Anyone hoping to use this system as a switching centre for the rest of their AV kit should look elsewhere - the rear panel is disappointingly barren, sporting no audio inputs whatsoever and only a couple of video outputs. There's an HDMI output for passing on all-digital video (regular or upscaled) to your TV and an RGB-capable SCART output, but that's yer lot. There is, however, a DM Port connection that allows you to connect the supplied iPod/iPhone dock (or other optional adapters for MP3 players, Bluetooth devices and mobile phones) and listen to your digital music library through the system.
'scuse my ignorance, what's a DM Port? and if it will take an MP3 output, couldn't that be used to bring Stereo from the TV into the Surround Sound as described above, straight out of the TV headphone socket into the DM Port?
Just a thought.0 -
Guessing the DM will be Digital Music.. but it's not a familiar looking port and definitely not standard.0

Just thinking about it. There is a socket on the front for a 3.5mm stereo jack. I could probably rig up something with that for now.
Time to start looking for a new sound system I guess.0 -
that'll be a headphone socket i'm guessing, so an output rather than an input.
You can pick up a decent Yamaha receiver for about £140 but then you'll need speakers. Probably pick up a bargain pair on eBay because they're not easy to post so collection only does tend to go cheap.0 -

I would definitely try that ({EDIT} assuming it is an input lol). You can pick up a 3.5mm male jack to jack from Ebay for about a pound.
I've done something similarly crudely in the past, only stereo mind but most surround systems can normally have a stab at converting it in order to use all the speakers.
EDIT: (again, system is woeful today)
The description suggests there is a supplied adaptor for the DM Port thing for iPhones/MPS players, I would expect the 3.5mm jack to be on that adaptor.0 -

It's for the calibration mic, & aux input.0 -
Unless I missread the pdf, its a headphone (Output) socket:idea:0
