She seems to be fine now thank you
Re the strikes.. tbh I am sick of hearing 'the teachers didn't want to strike they just did as the unions told them'.. well if they didn't want to do it they should have said no shouldn't they!!!
I have a family littered with teachers and not one has worked past 50 and the oldest teacher to have retired was 55 at the childrens primary... my gran had to work until she was 70 ironically cleaning the homes of 'old people' and my stepdad is still working hard at 68.. the pensions can't be that bad!!
All schools require teachers. But other staff are vital too. That includes care takers, cleaners, crossing patrol people and dinner ladies. I would say the majority of those are over retirement age but have to work as their pensions are so low. I don't suppose they are on a wage that is much over the minimum.
I can see the teachers point of view, but we are all having to make adjustments, mostly resulting in us being worse off in some way.
On TV they said that Teachers went into the job to expecting to retire early with a decent pension, so that's what they want. Shame these teachers did not go into the job to help educate the children of today. With the attitude they could make a difference. If they did maybe they wouldn't be on strike!
*Awaits the flinging of shoes from all flying teachers*
I used to do care work. It was minimum pay and really hard and not so nice work. But I didn't do it for the money. I did it for the satisfaction it gave me and the rewards I got!
No more cleaning been done here, unless you count catching up on the last months newspapers in order to chuck them!0 -

Got the Tennis on and had a snooze, littley at her friends and electrician been to put me a new kitchen light in, he was shocked at how old it was.... err yeah tell me about it matewaiting on online food shop now.

Ours are just about all in their 30's/40's but there are a lot of them who do cleaning AND dinnerladying.. personally I think they all want their heads testing.. working with children.. YUKKY!! lol

Exactly, .. They aren't THAT special! and while I do value their services I also value the services of many other people whose professions provide them with fewer benefits.

my point exactly... most people I know who went into teaching it was for the pension and the holidays not because they like working with children, some even openly admit to disliking them  I know that isn't everyone but even so.. one is too many!
I also think a lot of them view it all through rose tinted specs until they get a job teaching and realise the true impact it will haveon their lives... Some of the ladies here spend weeks planning and marking and suchlike.. but I can't help but wonder if that is why they have so many holidays..

lol.. I do respect the job they do and the service they provide for the nations children but I also think strikes are very much an obsolete and outdated process.. they tell the children to talk about their feelings and to compromise yet are (via the unions) unwilling to do the same themselves.. I don't have any blame for the teachers but for the primitive actions of the unions.. maybe our children could teach them a few things!
I used to do care work. It was minimum pay and really hard and not so nice work. But I didn't do it for the money. I did it for the satisfaction it gave me and the rewards I got!
My nanna at 70 was 'helping the old people' .. she gets £8 a MONTH from her work pension plus the state pension. Despite working from the age of 14 working in factories and cleaning to provide for her 3 children after she was widowed etc.. it just seems a very uneven distribution of wealth and leaves many in poverty.
Maybe I am just a communist at heart

I just wonder how you mothers explain to your kids that their teacher is refusing to go into school because they're unhappy about something. I mean, what kind of example does it set for them?
Collapsed in a heap with awful headache, I'm blaming it on the chemicals I used to kill the mould in the shower yesterday but could be because I ran out of my medication this week and am in withdrawal. Rather annoying because I've still got to cook dinner and unload wm and was meant to go out tonight. House looks pretty good though.0 -

no doubt I will get flamed for this but, tbh, they should have a back-up plan for childcare anyway - schools close for other reasons too, power cuts, boiler breakdown, the roof on the NEW multi-million pound school blowing off (maybe that was just us), snow and cover when the chillies are sick...when I used a childminder I was fully briefed on her emergency plan which would have involved DD being collected by another childminder until I could get there.
Been to town. I now own 3 bras - as opposed to 1 black one (I snapped and underwire in the white 1). Bought a blouse for work too and got £10 off my bill with vouchers/coupons PLUS one of the bras was reduced.
20something...
You tell the children the teachers are exercising their democratic right to object to changes in their pay and conditions and they should be pleased they don't live in a country where objecting to what the Government decree means you will be subject to house arrest. Or worse. And that's PHSCE;)Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

I've just spent 45 mins in DD's BR picking up rubbish and finding washing. I've filled a binbag and the WM is now on as I've found a full load of washing in there.

Not to worry, all worried relationship-type flyladies - I think I've had the end result you were all dreading.
I gave The Bloke another chance recently. I kept it quiet because I didn't want to drag it all into the thread.
I thought things had been going quite well, so much so I had asked him whether he wanted to move in on a permanent basis.
As soon as I said that, he started being a nob again. Moaning about how he does everything in the house when he visits, that Minion is horrible to him, blah blah blah. He let me down when he was supposed to be picking me up outside the club on Monday night. Luckily I had the means to get home, but he had gone to bed instead. Then today, he started moaning about how I hadn't unloaded the dishwasher - like it really matters when there is nothing to put in it? - and that Minion had privately said that she hated drums and didn't want to do them any more (which she denied very strongly as she loves them).
[makes note in book that he appears to be trying to stir unrest up between me and Minion]
I then get a convoluted story about why he couldn't take me to Pets at Home to get bulk buy splat food & litter, which basically boiled down to he couldn't be faffed to do it but was prepared to expend twice as much energy in making up excuses.
[Considers issuing yellow card but thinks better of it - everyone is entitled to not want to do something - I didn't want to unload the DW, after all]
After all that I found that he had driven his car today after drinking, because I found the empty can, still cold from the shop, under the seat when putting the parking permit on the windscreen.
RED CARD and permanent match ban.
I wasn't aggressive, he shouted that if I wanted him to move in, I should keep my nose out of his belongings. So I said 'actually, I don't anymore'. I packed his things for him, carried them out to his car and let him go on about how lazy I was, blah, blah, blah, until he shouted 'have a nice life' and sped off.
I called the Police ten minutes after he left.
Hopefully they should catch him somewhere between here and his mother's.
Anyway, have megamega courgettes in tomato and garlic bake tonight. Hopefully, it will be very nice with some rice.
Oh, and half a bottle of Merlot (gets handbag to go over to shop)
And I have put my bins out already!!!!I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Surely there is a thread on discussion time re the strikes for those who wish to discuss it?
Cleaning. I have done a little work on the hotspot that is the dining table, and found some important stuff which will help with HMRC type frogs when I got a chance. Need to empty and fill the DW, and make our bed again, plus dyson downstairs as the carpet has merged into a layer of pet hair.

Beasts fed.. I think Squeak is hollow!!!!!! She has had 5 cocktail size sausages and maybe half a tin of baked beans and 1/4 block cheese (it is mixed in to the beans so ssshhhhhh she hates cheese!) She is screaming at OH for pizza and shouting dinner!! I am glad she is strapped down or she might have eaten me!
Sill not seen Polly to deflea her... and DD2 needs defleaing as well when she gets in... she hates it.. but she is nearly 14 so is mortified to have them.. though I am surprised they never mentioned when she went to have her hair minced on Tuesday!
