Can anyone recommend a 6 man tent?

Hi we can only get away at short notice and have finally decided that camping may be the way forward. We are a family of 4 plus 1 jack russel but we are tall and feel that a 5 or 6 man tent would be better.
Can anyone suggest a reasonably priced tent that will be suitable for beginners.
TIA

Might be worth asking on http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/0

I would also suggest going to either a go outdoors or another shop that sells tents but who has them on display so you can get a feel for it, oswald bailey also have tents on display but it depends if they have the room so give them a call.0

We went to a camping shop that had displays up, gave us an idea as to what we wanted came back and did some research, mainly on uk campsite website and then searched the interent to get the best deal. We are a family of four, children are 8 and 6, we have a 8 berth, as you can never get as many in them as you say. My daughter and I sleep in one end and my husband and son sleep the other end, I feel at the mo they are not old enough to sleep one end on their own, then we have a large living room in the middle and a porch where we can cook if it is raining!!0

Go outdoors has a lot of tents on display, but it is not the best shop. Everytime I go I ask myself why afterwards...! Yeomans are much better.
Personally i love my Bear Lake 4 (They also do a 6) and most Outwell tents, but the Classic range like the Bear Lake are canvas, so cooler in summer...we also have an Outwell Virginia(I think...it is), which is technically a five man...and that was a lot cheaper.0 -
I would second asking on ukcampsite as suggested by wealdroam.
I would also add although a 6 berth tent says it can get six into it, in real terms it would only be six very good friends who didn't have much kit LOL
For a family of four you may want to consider an 8 berth. Alhtough if you're only going for shorter breaks a six man might be ok as you'll have less kit. But I defo recommend consdiering an 8man if you're going for longer holidays.0 -
If you are camping newbies look on e-bay for something which will do - if you get on with the idea of camping get the proper gear when you have had time to do some more research.
6 berth Royal (good brand) with 2 hours to go

I'd agree with all the above - go to have a look at some display tents and ask on ukcampsites. We have 3 tents for different things. When there was 5 of us going we used a Vango Diabolo 900 - 3 bedrooms and a huge living area. You'd be ok with a 600 - same, but 2 bedrooms.

This could be an option OP:

£75 with the additional 15% off = £63 and then quidco makes it about £60.... bargain IMHO.A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A

Depends what that is like when its raining etc, first thing id do OP is find out what you need to look for in a tent eg the specs, for example each tent has a hydrostatic head and i think 2000 or greater is what you should be aiming for but uk campsite can confirm this for you. Maybe a read of this, ukcampsite forums can help immensley, they gave me a few pointers as to what i should be looking for in a tent.0 -
If you can borrow or get one cheaply its probably best while you work out what you like and don't. You probably want to go for something at least 25% bigger than the number of people you will actually be using it for. So look for an 8 man.
If you are buying second hand bear in mind that PVC tents degrade in sunlight so one which has had a lot of use won't necessarily last much longer. Polycotton or canvas last longer. Lots of room pods are good for privacy but will tend to be colder as more outside surface plus they can be a pain to put up. Steel poles are heavy to put up but will cope better with wind.
Just had a quick nose on ebay - this if its in good nick is a really well thought out tent - potentially slightly snug in the sleeping areas but you could park a car in the living area - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Coleman-Galileo-Weathermaster-XL-Tent-free-windshield- /190546455634?pt=UK_SportsLeisure_HikingCamping_Tents_JN&hash=item2c5d742c52
We've got the smaller 4 man - we sleep 4 in it albeit two adults and 2 kids but the living space is amazing. They used to sell an extra room for these to make the 4 man sleep 6 by puttng the extra room at the living end. If you can get one of these for £250sh then you'll have a decent tent.
NB no personal connection to the ebay one.Adventure before Dementia!0
