  • Well I just come back from spending the vouchers they sent me!
Compiled a list so I got all the best buys and used my extra points vouchers.
The value washing powder is 50p kg, or 3 kgs for 1.63, which makes it dearer to buy the family sized pack of the same thing.
The cooking chocolate is 39p and is 25p for the non cooking stuff (which is the same as far as I can see).
It was cheaper to buy a new printer with cartridges than to buy the two cartridges I needed. I did this before and worried that they weren't as full as the normal ones and didn't notice any difference.

I know. I bought an black ink cartridge fom tescos for my printer cost me £6 let alone a manufacturers one at nearly £10. I mean the printer only cost £35

I now buy the cheapie cartridges at 99p each. Work fine. There is consumables sub board on the shop don't drop forum. Tells you where to get the cheapest supplies.

I bought mine from 7 days shop when they had an offer of free postage. Normally costs £3.95 but worth it if you order a lot in one go.

And I can't see the difference. Might need to get spare black as I only one spare but 3 colours as they sent me 3 instead of the two I ordered. Must print in draft mode if the items is for myself that will save ink.

    Yours

  • Always check your receipts, especially in Sainsbury, as not all special offers come off the bill. 9 times out of 10 I end up at cusomer service waiting for a refund.

At Tescos the other day they had the following,

Nice biscuits, Tesco brand - 26p for 200grams.

Malted Milk biscuits, Tesco brand - 25p for 200grams.

Custard Creams, Tesco brand - 28p for 200grams.

Alongside in a triple pack, the following exact same biscuits, Tesco ones same as individual packaged ones -

    150grams of Nice biscuits.
    150grams of Custard Creams.
    200grams of Malted Milk biscuits.

For 99p. So buying individually you get 600grams of biscuits and pay 79p and buying in a bulk triple pack you get 500grams of biscuits and pay 99p.

    What a bargain (!)

Keep your eyes peeled when shopping.

I noticed the exact same thing in asda last week (when shopping for my 1st ever powder/soda crystal mix); value bio washing powder 1kg box 50p, 3kg box £1.62.

I still wonder, who buys these? Surely someone must or they wouldn't stock them - BUT, who buys value unless they're watching the pennies? In which case, wouldn't they all spot this?

If they buy it regularly perhaps they just pick it up and whack it in the trolley. Maybe someone would rather pay more just to have one box? they must sell it to stock it I supose?
I must say i scrutinise everything now but you can't always do a direct comparison quickly as the value weights on the shelf tickets are sometimes done in different ways. (i hope that made sense!!)
  • It surprised me that bulk saving prices are often more expensive than the smaller packets.

look out for special offers, which can make the cost of a small packet a lot lower.

Read the cost per unit. However this does not always take account of the "2 extra free", so can be misleading.

it helps if you are good at mental arithmetic, as you can quickly double check the prices per unit.

I first became aware of this when I noticed that asda charged a lot more for Tunnocks Tea Cakes in the 10 packet rather than the 6 packet. Buying the smaller packet has the added benefit of being good for my stomach size:rotfl:

Update on the washing powder, 1kg still 50p but the 3kg has been reduced to £1.49, so does make it a penny cheaper to buy the big one rather than 13p more expensive.
  • New Tesco Muticleaner.
    Doesn't.
Get the flash one that does the job and is a few pence more.
