Faulty item, Seller ignoring case

Bought a refurbished laptop from an eBay business seller, described at factory restored and 'as new'.

The lappy arrived with a faulty internal wireless card, meaning I can't get online, After a few ignored messages I've opened a case in eBay which is also being ignored.

Where do I stand? I paid using a credit card via paypal.

Unfortunately many of us here have no experience of an ebay case, I have only ever done a paypal one which is clear cut.

Assuming that an ebay case runs in a similar way to a paypal one then you should win it, and when you get the ruling in your favour will need to return the laptp fully tracked and insured. Once you show via tracking that it has been returned you will be refunded. However, ebay claims are slightly more woolly than paypal ones, so I suggest you just check the status every day and make sure you are not beign asked ot do anything else or to provide any additional information.

Did you try phoning the seller? (you can request contact details) ebay messages are notorious for going missing.

How can an Ebay message go missing?

I've used Ebay 12 years and never lost one.

Doubt they are notorious for it - you probably mean people play dumb and say it never arrived.

I've always wondered that too. Every time it comes up on the boards, I have to wonder whether people see existing glitches and imagine there are more just to keep themselves going.

The seller as the time stated to respond or ebay will rule in your favour.

In the meantime - have you tried finding the correct driver using another pc and installing it using a usb stick. If its been refurbished - the correct driver might not have been added. Happened to me a few years back and i located the driver on the dell website.

I thinks a throwback to when messages just came via email - and people could say their spam filter got them.

I've been told its possibly a faulty network card rather than the driver - Something beyond my capabilities and I'm not willing to pay to have the issue checked out as I'd imagine that would render any protection warranty wise void.

Was the seller a high street chain with an eBay outlet?

I ask because I had some similar issues.

If it's an Acer laptop, with windows 7.. Connect to your router with an Ethernet cable, and run though a all the windows updates.

This sorted out the wifi troubles for me....

But only to reveal another fault... So it wet back. Lol

Hi there If it is a decent laptop and you want to keep it. I would ask the seller to refund the price of a new wireless card. Between 15-20 pounds. No more difficult to change than your battery. Card is under the panel marked wifi on laptop, screw off, remove the contacts, unscrew the card, remove, replace with new card, replace screws and connectors. There are loads of tutorials you can find that show you how. Hope this helps. I have a new laptop but I also have the very first one I ever bought in perfect working order cos I keep replacing cards and upgrading memory etc. Want to keep it til I can call it vintage. good luck

Yep high street store that likes catalogues!

Have tried the ethernet cable but without success, Doesn't even recognise the router which is why I'm not tempted to delve further
