Have`nt bought these for years

When I met my dh (many moons ago) he boasted how he adored crab. In our earlier years, family demands etc., money was tight, but I found a dressed crab on the reduced counter and thought: "I'll treat him; he works hard".
Presented the dressed crab and he was  "What's *that*!?"
(Me) It's your favourite; crab
(him) No, no, no!!! (he was appalled) I didn't mean *that* crab ... I mean the pink and white sticks of crab!
I'll go treat him now
Doesn't he know they don't contain crab??0 -

There's 2g of salt per 100g, so 5g in a full pack (max recommended for an adult per day is 6g). If you are eating 3 packs a day that's an awful lot of salt, even before you factor in any other food!!
I am 68, on low income and I must have 120gm protein daily to live - These sticks give me a lot of protein at a low price.
Bearing in mind my age and state of health, I am not bothered how much salt I ingest.:eek:0 -

Boys are amazing.
I grew up next to the sea, lots of fishermen and fish restaurants.
When OH and I were dating I took him to a fish restaurant as he told me he liked fish. What "I like fish" meant in his book was "I like white fish covered in breadcrumbs". He had the only non fish dish on the menu. I have a tale to tell 13 years on, love him :rotfl: Took a lot of time, but he finally eats prawns now too!Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

I believe that "crab sticks" are made from North Atlantic Pollock which is sliced very thinly and rolled up. Have you ever tried unrolling one?0

They can be made from a lot of things! They call it Surimi.
"Surimi - literally meaning "ground meat", is a Japanese loan word referring to a fish-based food product intended to mimic the texture and color of the meat of lobster, crab and other shellfish. It is typically made from white-fleshed fish such as pollock or hake that has been pulverized to a paste and attains a rubbery texture when cooked. The term is also commonly applied to food products made from lean meat prepared in a similar process"
So basically any cheap fish, mushed up and made into shapes! Jamie Oliver wouldn't like!!
But I do! (as long as I don't think too much about the manufacturing process!)0
