And where there did I say I said that to a customer?

If your going to buy something such as a laptop or another piece of tech which require knowledge to use. You can't just bring it back a few days later, when you've used it and just expect a refund. We can't resell it and we're under no obligation to do anything if it's not faulty. This is where the 'Shouldn't of bought something you don't know how to use part comes in. Get it now?

Then you needed to have made that clear in your post. The way it is written says that the exchange with the customer about denying refunds and its use were the same conversation.
when you refuse a refund because it's been used and that they shouldn't [STRIKE]of[/STRIKE] [have] bought it in the first place if they thought they couldn't use it.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

It's just one of those things. That being said, if someone asks for a demo of something, I'm always happy to oblige. I'd hate to think that someone would be going home, confused, and miss their favourite tv program because they don't know how to use something, because I know how much of a pain it is to miss that one thing you're looking forward to. Hell, it's a pain for me and I can usually just load up a catch-up service to see it. If someone is coming to me in a tizzy because they can't work their tv, the chances are they don't even know what an internet is, let alone how to access the iplayer.

I completely agree with this. In my time, I have programmed people's phone numbers into their phones for them, copied videos from a memory card to another, tuned in countless TVs and recorders, swapped SIM cards, changed ringtones...even set up someone's desktop PC on our display so I could show them how to work their printer. I've also taken a brand new printer on a bus for 40 minutes so I could install it in someone's home, and then return their old one to the store.

But there is a balance. I can't put myself that far out every time someone has a problem - sometimes there are people better placed to offer advice, or install things than I am, even if it is a little less convenient. I run the business for customers, first and foremost - but it's not the only priority. There's a lot to juggle - I would love to send someone home with you to tune in your TV, but I'd have two people staffing a huge shop, or something like that. I do what I can, and as long as people realise, then I am happy. But some people don't realise that I can't always agree to ever demand.

If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Sorry to be pedantic Flyboy, but I've spotted your typo. ;)

I'm sure you meant to say...

"Oh, I'm sorry. I seem to have misinterpreted your earlier post.
My mistake, I must try and read posts properly in future."
