Hi all, I feel nervous even typing this, how daft! I am just looking to meet some new people and make some new friends, I am 24 in Nottingham, I have had a look about joining clubs and that but haven't seen anything, I just feel so lonely it's getting me down, I have a good job, boyfriend and family just need friends to complete the puzzle!

Hello, just wanted to say good luck. Im sorry I cant think of anything constructive to advise but I wish you all the best. Have you tried joining local clubs? some of my best friends I have met through clubs or via my children,
I guess it also cant hurt to talk to people wherever you go, I do think I do too much of that though!0 -
See if there's one of these in your area - they're all about "doing stuff" - every member has to organise at least one event/year, so you organise something you want to do (e.g. cinema, your own birthday drinks down a pub, picnic at a lake, bowling, cricket.... you choose)... and everybody's events are published and you go to the ones you fancy. And they usually have a weekly pub night too.

I did a quick look, there's a Nottingham one, with 120 members: http://www.nottinghamivc.org.uk/0 -

When I got divorced and moved I was desperate to fill those long weekend hours. I joined Spice UK. http://www.spiceuk.com/home?handshaked=true It was really amazing, so many friendly people!
I also went along to dance classes at the YMCA, looked for book groups at the library, and never turned down an invitation even if I was sure I'd hate it. And I ended up meeting my new husband!0 -
I can see that you're in Nottingham so have you ever thought about...Ice Skating!! Not MSE in the slightest but it's great for making new friends. Nottingham is a really friendly rink too and there is quite a large community of adult skaters.
I started (not at Nottingham) in March and love it; it's something I can do on my own or in a group and you get a real sense of achievement and it's a great conversation starter! If you're up for it then make some enquiries about the Skate UK programme that they run; these are group lessons so you'll be with people of all ages and all with the same interests and you can take it from there.
I really can't recommend it enough.0 -

Ahhh I know how you feel, a lot of my friends have moved away or are too wrapped up in relationships to spend time with me
I'm at university and have some friends there (however most of them just want to go out drinking which I'm not really interested in) but when I'm home for the summer I'm a bit lost! I'm a similar age to you (23) so know how frustrating it is! At uni I started helping out with the local girl guide group just to get me out and about, I wasn't really expecting to meet anyone my age but actually they're all in their early 20's! Do you have any hobbies or anything that you'd like to try? There must be some clubs in Nottingham where you can go along to meet people!
The other people on the thread have made good suggestions, you just have to force yourself to go along to things even if you don't want to.0 -
I'm in Nottinghamshire but probably too old and boring for you. I know that there are alot of voluntary organisations crying out for people to join. Perhaps doing some volunteering will ultimately end up with you finding new friends???0
