I don't think anybody has mentioned this account yet. It was launched yesterday.

Coventry Building Society Poppy Online Saver

  • 3.1% gross interest, variable, including a 12 month bonus on £1 to £250,000
  • Four penalty-free withdrawals per year (50 days' interest charge on further withdrawals)
  • Withdrawals are to a nominated account or another account with Coventry BS
  • Coventry BS will make an annual donation to the poppy appeal based on the account balance (for every £20,000 deposited, Coventry BS will make a donation of £10 to the Poppy Appeal)
In terms of the FSCS £85,000 deposit protection scheme, deposits with Coventry and Stroud & Swindon building societies are counted together.

It`s another good account from the Coventry that replaces their eNotice savings account. That offered a great rate of 3.05% interest and penalty-free access subject to 30 days' notice.

The Coventry is probably the best all round savings provider in the country.

They don't do outbound Faster Payments.

Spookily I'd gone on the site to day to check on the status of my eNotice account and signed up for the Poppy account :T

I've found them very good to deal with but the faster payments thing annoys me - just don't get why they don't all do it? (I know why but its just not right!)

I tend to agree with you there......BUT......they are as bad as other providers at constantly bringing out new accounts with headline-grabbing interest rates and then hoping that existing customers with old accounts either won't notice or won't bother upgrading.

The Britannia used to be very bad for this sharp practice so we ditched them for good. By law providers should have to notify account holders.......oh but then I forgot......they are out to make maximum profits from customers. Silly me.

Thank MSE for championing the customer !

I think the title is misleading. If I come across instant access saving a/c I will expect unlimited withdrawals, no notice required. It is like the a/c that I will get from Halifax Web Saver Rewards, or Santander eSaver i3.

This reads like an advertisement. Maybe you work for them?

The bit I don't like is "replaces". I would prefer them to upgrade existing accounts automatically without customers constantly having to be on the look out. Constant new accounts to "replace" existing ones is just a disguise for RIPPING OFF CUSTOMERS !

Only saying as I find, only work for myself and of course the taxman.

On their site you can easily find current rates AND "closed account" rates.
They also send me an email every month reminding me to log in and check my existing accounts and any new products.
If your account conditions allows it, they will transfer it to a new product immediately you ask.

As regards FP, there`s only the Nationwide you can "SEND FROM" out of all B/Socs.
FP can only be sent from a current and not a savings accounts (in most cases AFAIA).
Most of the time, FP with the banks is a bit hit and miss anyway, especially Halifax which usually reverts you to BACs.
    FP is a limited amount.

Next time you post try and say something worth saying and try to be informative.

In fairness, Coventry themselves don't call it instant access.
