Tried to buy a fasinator/hat from bhs on-line. Every time i tried to go through to the checkout i got this message
    My Basket

Products, Hats Scarves & Sunglasses, Hats & Fascinators You are under the required legal age for this product, you must remove it from the basket to continue to the checkout.

    Very strange.

It gave me a form to fill my date of birth, I'm 70, in but still refused me.
Wonder what they think i am going to do with a hat, didn't know they were classed as offensive weapons.

What web browser are you using? A few badly written sites only work perfectly in IE, and have problems with Firefox & Chrome. There are a couple of sites I use regularly that I can't use with Chrome, and so I have to use IE to access them properly.
This is a massive problem on the web -

IT guy - "Practically everyone uses IE, so let's write our site for that."
IT boss - "Good idea, go with that."
IT gal - "What about people who use Opera, Safari, Firefox, Chrome, etc.?"
IT guy - "They'll have to use IE."
IT gal - "So, we're going to break the web accessibility guidelines?"
    IT guy - "Er..."
    IT boss - "Er..."

The project I'm working on now was basically written by others to work with IE; it didn't take much effort to tweak the HTML & CSS files to get it working on other browsers, but that's still time I could have spent on other pieces of the code. Arrgghhhhh!

What's doubly annoying is when the !!!!!! who won't put the effort into writing and testing their sites properly then go to the trouble of gratuitously disabling them for the browsers they haven't handled.

I bank with GNatWest and when they brought out on line banking they included code to make sure you couldn't use it with anything other than IE.

Of course, they were too stupid to realise that the competing browsers could spoof there 'browser type' reporting to identify themselves as IE. Once you'd done that the site worked perfectly.

Had they just taken the trouble to test it properly they would have saved themselves the effort of writing code to stop people using other browsers and not made such tits of themselves.

I use Chrome so I also occasionally suffer with sites designed primarily for IE... but I still feel compelled to say - they're guidelines. No one's under any legal compunction to code for a variety of browsers and if your project budget's tight, and you can only justify the resources for one browser, then you're going to choose the most common, aren't you?

What I find more irritating (but this probably doesn't affect the average consumer) is an IT contractor developing an app in some wacky language they fancy trying out, then leaving you with an impenetrable piece of code that no one else can maintain. There's a lot to be said for using the most common platform.

I got ID'd buying an Easter card in Asda once. I was 28, it had glitter and a chicken on it - I suppose I could have done damage if I'd rubbed it in someones face.
