Can you help with info to present my course?

There will be places for woman who have recently given birth as well as pregnant ones.
We are hoping many will sign up because there is an incentive for all who complete the course.
Also, we are very lucky to have a retired midwife on board , and she has contacts with health visitors.0 -
How many places do you have funding for? How much funding per head have you been given? What's the population size of your Parish? Mine is around 450 and that includes males, children and females who aren't of childbearing age/can't become pregnant/have completed their familes..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
Its a big one , about 1100 people in our parish. The treasurer has said there are 15 places on the course , and if its a success we have funding for a total of four.
Anyway Errata , thank you for showing so much interest , but the thread is becoming a little off topic , and was never meant to be about the financial ins and outs of a cats ares!0 -
This all sounds like a complete waste of good money, where you're just repeating what many others do for their job. Why not find a way of doing something different entirely. They'll already have access to all this information from the leaflets and Family Centres and midwives and breastfeeding coordinators and social workers in their lives.
Do a course on food budgeting a la Martin style. Get them to realise how much stuff costs, budget for future bills yet to arrive, meal plan and do household budget maths.0 -
The point of it being a ten week course is so I can keep an eye on how things progress and offer encouragement and support to those who are finding it hard going and need a bit of a boost to get them back on track.
There will be funds available to help with upfront costs , which is one reason why people will sign up for it , but they have to do all ten sessions to get the funding help.
But aren't you a man? I'd have been extremely uncomfortable learning, and possibly, breastfeeding with a bloke present who was not going to be a new father. It's hard enough to breastfeed in front of male members of the family - more so a strange man who was just 'thre' offering support and encouragement.
This is one of your wind-ups, isn't it tod?0 -

This is a big society initiative , there may well be government funded ways of doing this, but thats not the direction the country is going in0 -

TBH I think thats a bit sexist , what on earth will they do if (heaven forbid) a male Dr is present at the birth? send him away? :rotfl:
Its all about the relationship and trust that will be built up, and anyway, I see women breast feeding in the shopping centre these days, so obviously they are not all timid little shrews!0 -
But isn't the Big Society intended to provide local support and services, information and help that's not available to people within the area. This is a big society initiative , there may well be government funded ways of doing this, but thats not the direction the country is going in
Yet everything, and more, that you've said is already covered multiple times with layers of NHS/Council/Govt departments and funding.
Household budgeting, making it real, getting people involved in coming up with tips for moneysaving, working out how to budget for things that'll be occurring in 1 year/2 years, is more "Big Society" I'd have thought.... and a darned sight more useful - and it'd increase the potential market for your course, engaging more people in it.
Budgetting, meal planning, saving up for Xmas, how to save up for next March's gas bill .... are all things people can become competitive at - and some people like that aspect. Your 'course' seems like a bunch of people will sit and stare at you and go home, until next week.
With a financial budget thing, you could even set homework. You can't set homework of "OK ladies, express 2 pints and bring it in next week", but you CAN say "OK, ladies and gentlemen, come up with a budget for a Halloween party for 12 people with only £4 by next week".0 -
The difference is that a doctor, is a doctor, he has not gone there to have a good perv, he has gone there to do a job. When he is needed.
You will be there to 'offer support'. I would not expect many women to come back after the first session. There is a whole world of difference between what you are suggesting - which is sitting there while new mums breastfeed (I never bf in front of any bloke other than my husband!! - let alone some random bloke from the Parish Council).
Your course is one way of putting new mothers OFF breastfeeding if you are going to be there, when they need help they need a hand to be shown what they are doing wrong and how to latch on - you being there is not going to make them feel comfortable, whether you choose to believe this or not. You seem to think that everyone is whipping them out in shopping centres, we we are not. The ones feeding in shopping centres are confident breastfeeders, these will not be requiring help from your 'support' group.
It is just weird on your part - you have no reason to be there as you know nothing about breastfeeding or nappies. 'I've picked up a leaflet from the Health Centre' while claiming to have a retired midwife on board shows you are talking crap. First off you would have got the info from the internet and not needed to ask here - and secondly, she would know all about it and you would have no need to ask here.
It's a wind up!!0 -
