All clunking noises are important. It could be a bush thats failing, an engine mount thats failed or a CV joint thats packing up. They only get worse and with that also more expensive to fix.

I too think it could be the cv joint. I had one of these go on a car many moons ago and it wasn't cheap to repair. I would take it back the garage you bought it from. You've only just picked it up.

If you bought it privately let the seller know before you take it to a garage. If you find out it needs work doing and they offer to give you the money back then you'll probably expect the cost of the inspection back as well, but if you didn't give the seller then chance to rectify anything first...........

If bought privately, tough, sold as seen.

as said 'clunks' are normally a worn part and should have been picked up on the mot even if just as an advisory, does it state on the mot cert that there were no advisories or did the seller tell you that,

normally CV joints make more of a 'clacking' noise than a clunk

got the mot certificate and it says no advisories have also double checked online. so what could it be? it doesnt make any noises when turn steering fully either way.when parked.

CV joint most likely - does it only do it while turning around corners?

to test the CV take it to a large car park and do a circle in each direction at about 10 mph,if you hear a 'clacking' noise in either direction then it is the cv,

the only other way to check engine/gerabox/other bushes is to get a garage to put it on a ramp and check

does it 'clunk' while changing gears and pulling away
