This is exactly what happened to us. And whilst I believe that my son qualifies for at least MRC we decided to accept it. After 9 months of stress fighting the appeal we were just relieved to have got an improved award. Also if we had wanted to contest it still we had to start the appeal process all over again!!! just couldn't face that.

Incidently my other half has a theory that they are trying to get away with awarding LRC because that way they don't hace to pay out carers! Ever the cynic!

dori2o - Not everyone in pain uses pain relief though, for me the horrible side effects of the painkillers are worse then the tiny edge they take off the pain. Most of the time I can't even feel the difference after taking them so I only bother when I really don't have the energy to deal with the pain anymore and hope it helps enough.

That is why I stopped taking painkillers a long time ago I couldn't tell any difference between taking them & not taking pain killers.
When a locum GP said I should take painkillers my reply was classic and shut her up " Painkillers mask the pain they don't cure it and that can lead to doing more harm than good, would you like a claim against you for bodily harm?"

As for the DWP/ATOS changing their mind just before a tribunal date I have heard that ATOS are in the tribunal buildings and sift through cases weeding out the ones they know they have no chance of winning and conceding defeat but don't be surprised if within a very short period you receive another form to go through the whole thing again.
Someone please tell me what money is

Completely agree. I've just had the last 4 days (Wed, Thu, Fri, today) off work due to the side effects of increasing my fentanyl patches from 25mcg/hr to 50mcg/hr (equivalent of 180mg oral morphine per day). Wednesday I couldn't lift my head off the pillow and couldn't physically stay awake for more than a couple of minutes, also had sickness and a major headache. Thursday was much the same but the drowsiness died down a little and Friday I had a blinding headache. Had to change my patch again Friday but missed doing it as I fell asleep on the bed after going upstairs just to see if the quiet cool room would get rid of my headache.
Changed the Patch Saturday dinner and within an hour I thought I was going to die, the headache was still there and getting increasingly worse. Phoned the emergency GP who said if I want to get the most out of the patch to 'power through' and my body will eventually adapt to the higher dose.

Today I'm not too bad, still a little drowsy but going back to work tomorrow,

As yet I have no more pain relief than I had taking 40mg morphine a day. (about 5%)

I'm desperate for this to work as the pain clinic have said that there is nothing else they are willing to try after Fentanyl and have recommended to my doctor that if Fentanyl is not effective to put me back onto co-codamol or dihydrocodeine.
All I want is some relief from the pain, just a few days would be great, after 6 years of constant unremitting chronic excruciating pain a couple of days of being pain free would seem like a lifetime.

I was hoping to get DLA in order to reduce my working days to reduce the amount of travelling I need to do which is the main source of increased pain during the week. This would then give me a free day with which to explore alternative therapies, and also have the funds to finance the therapies, i.e. accupuncture, aromatherapy, reflexology, massages, anything that I might get something from. As it is I simply don't have the time or the funds to do such things.

Do you need help through the night and the day? HRC is only paid out to those who need round the clock care.
