Bullguard did better than most on the latest virus bulletin comparatives:

I'm looking at usage of resources rather than virus bulletins.

Sure Bullguard is heavier on resources but won't make a difference with those specs. If it's the laptop speed itself, more likely it's something simple, like the power settings are on "balanced" rather than high performance.

Sounds more like the internet speed, in which case Bullguard (using Outpost firewall) could definitely be a factor. If so, I wouldn't go and move on to another full suite straight away.

OP you can uninstall Rapport from the Control Panel > Programs and Features. Afterwards, make sure the leftovers are removed:

Ok, many thanks for all this !
First, I have found and installed, the service pack 1 for windows7. It was waiting to be isntalled and is now done.
I got Bullguard with the computer free and already in.
Its not a laptop, its an all in one, Lenovo A310 Idea Centre all in one

Next, we live remote up in the hills and the exchange has nothing in it apart from the basic broadband. Does that help ? xx

I already wrote that in post #11. :)

I didn't mean 'resources' to mean simple memory usage, but also CPU utilisation.

As the OP suggested that her other laptop was noticeably quicker, perhaps I'm guilty of assuming that she was using the same Internet connection.

Don't have a problem with you trying the other possible solutions.

Let see if the Rapport removal does the trick firstly and then go from there.

Argghh ! very very slow to boot up this morning, faffing around with the fan running. Took ages to get Firefox to open. Settled down now though. What to try next? Bullguard? Not happy at paying all that money and ending up with a slower computer. I can take it back to the wee shop we bought it from but there's nothing technically wrong with it so what can they do !

Had you already rebooted for the Windows service pack update you installed yesterday?
