Hi hubby needs new tyres and he does around 30k miles a year, mostly motorway. He is looking at Conti Eco 3 but they are sooo expensive and Im sure with your help I can suggest something as good and durable (even if I read that the Conti are very noisy)
Can anyone recommend a durable tyre with good grip/wet performance?
Many thanks
(whatever he has now, not sure what but I hear he is not happy with them)

Almost any mid range to premium tyre will give you the grip, but durability is another issue, in my experience conti,s dont last very long.
I have Avon (zv5 I think) that are grippy and long lasting..I also do 30000 plus a year0 -
Vredesteins last well and are always high in the scores for wet grip tests.
Wear is reasonable, though there could be some correlation between hard compound low wear rate compounds and lack of wet grip...logical really.
From my own and my family's experiences these are mid budget tyres that i would buy again, all have acceptable wet grip...in no paricular order.
Vredestein Sportrac and Quatrac (all season), Toyo T1R's (bit noisy), Uniroyal Rainsport and Rain Expert, Avon ZZ3 (underrated), Hankook S1 Evo.0 -
German tyre tests appear to show the longest life tyres are
Michelin Energy Savers and the new Pirelli Cinturato P7.
Price depends on tyre size and whether they are runflats etc
This website has tyre ratings from German tests.

You can have grippy tyres that dont last long of tyres with no grip but will last forever.
When its puring down with rain and hes doing 70 +? I wonder which ones he wishes he had fitted?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Kumho KU31. A nice mid range tyre with good grip and decent wear. I cane my car on a mix of local NSL A roads and a weekly 200 mile round trip on motorways. My local spot charges £75 per tyre inc fit and balance for 205/55 R16 V.0

Or you can have a happy medium which is what most tyres provide0 -

Thats the ones, Exactly the same but mine were only £54 each all in. Cheapest online were £68.
Seems they maybe stopping this tread pattern soon.
I was tempted to get some and store them until needed. I really rate them.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
If i want tyres to last a long time and i have the money then it will be Micelin every time, the Energy tyres have less grip in the wet than Primacys but then again it is a low rolling resistance tyre so that is to be expected.
Have heard good things about Kumho and found the Toyo T1r to be a lot quieter and better on fuel than the earlier T1s, which was fairly noisy.
I wanted Vredestiens this time but they were out of stock so i stuck on some Sava tyres which are actually fine in wet it dry conditions but are a little noisy when turning a low speeds and have reduced my fuel consumption from 52/3mpg to 48/50mpg, which was disappointing. The tread compound is also very soft so i suspect this helps with grip at the expense of durability and noise.0 -
I have put yokohama c drives on my car lasting really well and a nice quiet tyre at all speeds.Grip wise they are good in the wet and fantastic in the dry.
Cannot remember the exact price as it was last autumn time but they were around £130 a pair fitted0 -

Last ones I had were £49 fitted although it was just over a year ago.
I had two KU31 205/55 R16 fitted for £100 and went back a month later for another two and paid £98.
Still loads of tread left on them but the next time I need tyres I'll be going for Kumho again.0
