I have bought a property. Is it reasonable to expect it to be clean?

We are having problems with post as we moved in last aug and we are still getting constant mail...some of it is important mail ..we just got one from arriva asking for forwarding details (which we do not have) as there is a mortgage shortfall on the policy they took out...car tax, inland rev,the lot,
we are just putting not known at this address but we had to pay 2x£32 for our redirection,
why do some people not do it.. up
When we moved in it looked quite clean but when you dig a bit deeper you find out all is not well.so we ripped every carpet in the house up and got the painter and decorators in...best thing to do if you have the budget. It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
One man's "clean" is another man's "skanky".
When I moved in here, the prevous owner said she'd "cleaned".
Unfortunately, she had a cat and a dog and the place stank of animals. It took 8 months to get rid of the dog stink from everywhere, including replacing every carpet in the house and professional cleaners coming in twice. The smell just kept on coming back time after time. I'm in no doubt that some people wouldn't have even noticed, but to others, the whole place was just minging.
Clean it yourself - it's what everyone else has to do!"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -

One house we bought a few years ago was utterly disgusting when we moved in. The kitchen we so thick with grease, I went to the shop to buy some industrial strength cleaning stuff, and by the time I got back all the kitchen cupboards were on the driveway as my husband had decided there was no way to get the grease off them!
A couple of days later the carpets joined them on the drive and we had to scrub the bare floorboards to get rid of the smell of dog pee...
We should had seen the danger signs... the husband had had a really stinky poo just before one of the viewings! It was all we could do to make polite conversation with them whilst trying to get outside to "look at the garden"!0 -
I'm clearly a bit of a sucker because when we sold our flat, i cleaned it from top to bottom, wrote the buyer out an extensive guide to the flat telling him how to work the boiler/heating system, when the bins came, etc and left him a bottle of wine to enjoy his new home with. We then arrived at our new house where the vile woman we bought from had left the house filthy, decaying food in the cupboards, dirty water from the dishwasher they'd removed all over the kitchen floor, dust balls in every corner, it was disgusting, I'd have been too ashamed to have EVER left my home like that for someone else but some people just don't care i think.
I just wanted the person who bought my flat to be happy in it....and i think i'd do the same again when we sell this house.0
