Sky - No Router ever sent

Options
Hi

I will try and make this as short as possible :)

I transfered to sky on the 19th April this year using a MAC code.

I have never recieved a router and have called them and emailed them so many times asking for one and all they say is they will send one out, they have refunded the monies taken from my account but i am really annoyed that i am still withough internet after all this time. I have tryed to complain by phone and email and just get the same response that they will send one out. My latest email i said i will contact ofcom but willthis help?

Any advise on how to go forward with this will be great as over 2 months and no internet as cant even use one of the old ones i have as sky will only work with their routers.

Thanks

Any ADSL router will connect to Sky with the correct settings entered.
What you can't do is use a Sky router on another ISP, as the firmware would require flashing.
When Sky say that they don't 'support' other routers than their own, that doesn't mean that they don't work-it just means that they won't be able to offer you tech support if you get problems.

I will try and google these settings then, when I asked them they said only sky routers would work so took their word for it.

Wish I asked on here before lol

    Thanks

Th essential settings are your broadband username and password, Everything else is pretty much standard.

Sky tend to lock theirs down so you can't do anything with them, so use your old one and like macman said, just use your broadband username and password as that's all it should need to connect.

The trouble is Sky wont give you the username /password as its created from the MAC address of the router.

So sky username would be like 002345678901@skydsl
and the password is created from the original network key

OP you could by a Sky router from Ebay to use until/if Sky do eventually send one

Unfortunately the Sky username and password are coded into the router and not available to the customer.

Some folks over at skyuser.co.uk have been able to extract the information from Sky routers to enable you to use your own, but you need a Sky router in the first place.

There are loads on Ebay these days.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
