Bella... try not to let it get to you. There is a nasty undercurrent in some of these threads. People seem to take pot shots at people questioning how ill they are... often in the hope that will make them worse so they themselves can feel superior. It's fair to assume that people claiming sickness or disability benefits are going to have probably had decent experience of having to prove their ailments and effects to DWP and possibly even medical professionals (especially if suffering mental health problems). Yet some think they should be proving the same to them. You can't win sadly. The fact you're thinking about work means some will think you can't be that ill... and there'll be others who'll think you should have been seeking work even if you were ill. There'll even be others who think being able to post on an internet site (or be able to have a baby!) means you should get no sickness benefits at all. Fortunately these people are unlikely to be the ones you'll need to convince to get medical help or benefits... even if there is every chance they're just as daft as the ones you do.

Do think again about your decision not to post anymore, Bella. These boards can be really helpful - you just have to ignore those who aren't.

Looby's advice about asking to see the lone parent advisor is a good one. They can help you with preparing to go back to work.

In order to claim working tax credits, you will need to work a minimum of 16 hours per week, which may be of great benefit since you are recovering from an illness. It will also mean you don't have to stress too much at this stage about returning to full time employment.

Good luck with it all. As I said, do reconsider about posting on these boards, there are some genuinely nice posters on here who can help with any queries you might have.

Thanks Looby for the clarification re money. I knew about the situation for JSA but wasn't sure for IS.

Bella - Just thinking it may be good for you to start with some volunteering work rather than working part time. That way there would be less stress involved if you find that you are not well enough to start working again.

I second that thought the Disability employment advisor at the jobcentre put me in touch with a charity where i did some volunteer work for about 18 months 1 sometimes 2 days per week. In the end this combined with 1 night a week doing a course at college caused my illness to get worse, it took me a year to get well again and i am have now completed a year of uni, but again i was unwell for a few months after completing it. It would be unwise to push yourself too quickly because ultimately you will be ill longer which means more taxpayer cash keeping you afloat for a longer period.

I wasn't referring to your post Older, Although I did think it was pretty self explanatory that the OP had been ill and was in the process of recovery.

    .

Thanks for your comment.I didn't personally think that the situation was self explanatory, which is why I asked for clarification. I'm glad that the misunderstanding has been cleared up.
