Looks good to me so far (Win7). Having said that, only updated it a few minutes ago, so plenty of time to go wrong.. lol! It did upload all my tabs (always have.. err.. a few open.. hehe), and I've switched about, logged in to a couple, scrolled, etc, etc....... so.. looks ok.... <touches desk)

Martin's (the bandit ) tempted me to try it on Ubuntu, but.......... can't be bothered with all the faffing around :rotfl:

Have you checked if 'smooth scrolling' is enabled? It's not set as default if you set up a new profile. But could be wrong.

    For Windows, tools/options/advanced/general.
    Thanks, but yes.
A Google search shows that and switching off hardware acceleration as the solution, but for me it makes no difference either way to the arrow key scrolling. It stays choppy and horrible.

It looks like it is a small minority affected or noticing it.
There are about 1000 saying "me too" on the help page I linked to in the OP, but I can't find any open bugs that are being worked on at Mozilla.
It could remain an unexplained mystery.
I think I'll have to stay with Chrome for now.

Must admit, no problems here, on board graphics and nothing tinkered with.

v5.0 on Ubuntu 64bit all OK.

But resisting v5.0 on this Win7 partition (dual boot) as I need one of the addons.
    Move along, nothing to see.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/?src=api will probably get the add-on working with 5.......if you can be bothered with the hassle.:D

perhaps unlikely but take a look at your mouse settings too -- try changing them back to default. must admit, i do experience far better -- smoother scrolling -- with Opera too.

    A quick update on this.
I discovered the touch pad driver was broken, so I've installed a fresh one. It doesn't make too much difference because I don't use the fancy features. At least I know it 's working, so thanks for that.:)

I've also discovered a 2011 Intel graphics driver update which won't install. Not validated for my computer I think it said. So I'm stuck with the latest Toshiba driver from 2009.

I'm no nearer to solving the problem, but I have learned a few things along the way, so that's a small positive.

The FF 5.0 update message already told me it wasn't compatible and would be disabled.
    Move along, nothing to see.

What FF5 is doing to me, that FF4 did too, is 'Not responding' after sleeping. I just give it a couple of minutes and it sorts itself out, so it's just testing my patience :D

Updating an oldish thread. I haven't solved the problem, which I suspect is due to an outdated graphics driver, but I have finally found an acceptable work around for my scrolling problem, and it involves a fancy touch pad facility that I said earlier I don't use.:)

I've installed https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/yet-another-smooth-scrolling/, carefully adjusted its settings and switched on two finger touch pad scrolling on my laptop.
End result, after I got used to scrolling in a different way, is smooth scrolling.
Firefox is a pleasure to use once again, for the first time since 3.6.

Although I still think Chrome is an excellent browser, it is nice to be back. The failings of Adblock plus in Chrome did start to annoy me in that it only hides some ads. Some of them even remain clickable when they are invisible. I can't remember an example now, but it did surprise me when mistakenly clicking a blank space loaded another page!

I know that is not a reflection on Adblocks performance, but a limitation of Chrome which is unlikely to ever change.

Adblocking in Firefox is far superior imho and enough to make me switch back on its own.

I've not used Adblock Plus with Chrome, only recently learned that it even supported it. Interested in your experience - did you have a subscription?

Probably won't make a difference, but is Palemoon any better for you? Can use portable version to test:

The Chrome version is essentially identical to the Firefox one from the user viewpoint. I had Easylist active IIRC. It just can't block everything and falls back on hiding them instead. http://adblockplus.org/en/known-issues-chrome
It's a whole lot better than nothing, but not perfect.

I tried Palemoon. It was no different, which is why I suspect it is a problem with my machine rather than a Firefox problem.
I can live with my work around happily enough, so it's not a problem now.
