Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 23/06/11 This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning BB and those who follow :D

Up at sparrows fart with DD although at least she did sleep all the way through last night. DS has now joined us so trying to keep them quiet so H can catch up on some sleep (he's had earache all week and hasn't been sleeping well).

Day off for me, no other children at all today :) I am child free all morning so I am popping round to a friends house to give her a baking lesson LOL I said when she had her new kitchen I teach her so here we are :D
I suppose this afternoon will be spent doing the house work that I CBA to do yesterday although in fairness I had a terrible headache so in the past I'd struggle on feeling pants.....time to start looking after me a bit better :o

Tea tonight is cajun chicken and rice.
Hugs and spoons all round. Have a great day OS or not.

    ETA:

Happy birthday meanmarie :D Have a great day xxx (I think I've got the right name from FB :o)

    Morning all
TFI Friday, we have a new system for logging jobs at work & it is proving very time consuming, still I've got the hang of it now, the hard part is persuading the teachers, some of ours are very militant & believe filling in 4 columns on a piece of paper constitutes 'admin' & teachers don't have to do 'admin'! They prefer the old system of yelling instrctions at me as the run down the corridor!
OS for yesterday included getting 3 loads of washing dry & putting a french stick & some LO cheese through the food processor together to make a crumb topping.
Still I'm out with my DD's this evening so that should be good.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning all,

:bdaycake::bdaycake:Happy Birthday to MeanMarie, hope you have a fabby day xxxx

Bright sunshine here, shame I am off to work, still early finish today, chicken curry for dinner, I kept some of the sauce from our last takeaway meal, so will mix that in, hope to make it taste more authentic.

JackieO, I was thinking of you last night, I was a single parent for 11 years, and if it wasn't for my mum and dad, I would have gone under, with their help I was able to bring up my daughter, and pay a mortgage and stay debt free, I dont mean financial help, but childcare to enable me to work, I think its a wonderful thing you are doing for your family, I know I will be eternally grateful to my mum and dad, and my dd has a very close relationship with her grandparents.

Will leave dd a few jobs for the day, but I will swish and swipe before I go.
Not sure about any washing, we have had such a lot of rain.

OK better get on, have good days all xx

Morning Bargainbird and Bitsy and all who cross and follow.

No work today so in bed with laptop and a cuppa. DH went to work at silly o clock and I woke up too. The combi boiler is in our bedroom as no suitable wall in the kitchen and I do hear it fire up when he has a shower.

I am flying today-I hear the vacuum calling. May pop into town later.....

Freezer roulette today. Thank heavens for home made frozen meals! I had a really busy day yesterday and it was bliss to just pop the rice on and reheat the chilli!

    Have a good day all.

My mum provided me with 2 years of free childcare 3 very full days a week after I had DS. As such both my parents have a very close bond with my children (so much so they are desperate for us to pop down to where they are on holiday with the kids so they can have a grandchild fix LOL).
I consider myself very lucky to have been given this as my mum and dad didn't pursue their relocation plans as my mum had promised to help me out (I must stress this was their decision, I told them to b*gger off like they always wanted ;) Funny thing is now my dad won't move because he'd miss the kids too much).

    Good Morning chums ,

sun is shining and the sky is blueish and I can see clearly across the River Medway from my window which is usually a good sign. I received a letter with my results from Uni in yesterday and I was pleased to see I had passed my third year, what wasn't so good is that my course has been cancelled for the coming year so I am up the creek without a paddle as without my fourth year I can't complete my final module .Apparently 'government funding' has been pulled so all of the folk who ,like me have scoured their brains for the past three years just have to say 'Oh well, bit of a nuisance' and walk away !!!:mad::mad: I shall see my tutor this afternoon when I go to my History Club and see what she suggests, but I am not a happy bunny this morning.I know I am doing the course for my own pleasure and interest, but there are people who are trying to do this to improve their job prospects, albeit part-time as they work full-time, and its those I feel the most anger for.I know it won't change my life at all, but it was a lifeline to me when I was going through all the cancer treatment, as concentrating on my course stopped me thinking too much about everything else.Plus it just seems that three years of education has just tripped down the tubes :mad::mad:
Still I suppose having my grandsons to take care of for the next few years will keep me busy and active.
Further education seems to be bottom of the list of things that the Government aspire to now .I went to my local FE place yesterday and asked about next September's courses and they are not yet sure what will be running .normally the new book is out by the second week in June they told me yesterday that it may be possibly out in July sometime but as their not sure how much money will be available for classes its not been printed yet :mad::mad: What is the matter with central government do they not want folk to make the effort to get an education anymore.I left school at the age of 14 with a badge for growing a daffodil from the London Flower Lovers League, I worked hard all my life and when I retired I decided that I wanted to return to 'school' to catch up on all the education that I hadn't had the opportunity for back in the late 1940s.I took English, History, Law and Maths at GCSE and flew through them over the years .My History tutor convinced me to go for a Combined Certificate of Studies at the Univesity of Kent which I have been doing for the past three years ,with the last one due this Sepember.Being the 'granny' of the class I was accepted by the other students with absolutely no problems at all and we all got on well and I have had a terrific time with them all.I have learned so much over the past years and now it looks like I will have to sit down with a blanket over my knees and watch Countdown or some equally soul-destroying rubbish on t.v. just because I'm an old woman:mad::mad::mad: Grr I am definitely turning into a grouchy old lady this morning .Which is a shame as I'm normally quite upbeat and full of seetness and light about things. Watch this space as I think I am going to get quite vociferous with my protests at Uni at some point.Bring out the water cannon I am on the warpath ;)
Apart from all my ranting I do hope you all have a pleasant day and things don't get you as riled up as I am at the moment :D
    Have a good day everyone

    Eighth Anniversary
    Morning everyone,

    Happy birthday Meanmarie:D

Just been outside inspecting my vegetable garden, in the past few days baby courgettes, squashes and cucumbers have all appeared and we have eaten our first crop of peas.

Mum rang last night and told me that the funeral for my aunt is next thursday. This means that I can definitely go as our school is shut due to the strike BUT so is DD2's school and I will need to find someone to have her for the day as I don't think she should go to the funeral with me as she only met my aunt once or twice and people are going to be really upset at the service.

Washing is on line, packed lunches made.
Tea tonight is HM pizza (because it is friday).

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)

    Morning everyone

Dry, bright with some sun and cloud, nice breeze to dry the washing too. DH up and off to work early but not stupid early o'clock, and somehow I got up at the same time and made us both a cuppa - think something's wrong there, he should be bringing me one - think I need to get a grip!!

1 load of washing on line, our bed stripped and in WM, boys now stripping their beds - will do those after ours finished in WM. Dinner last night was lovely toad in the hole, potatoes, carrots, broccolli, spring cabbage and gravy, ice cream for those that had room for dessert. Will be heading to the bank shortly, then doing a food shop, did a menu plan yesterday and really don't need very much - really need a cheap week as seem to have spent a small fortune in the past 3-4 weeks - need to sort this otherwise it's going to get out of control. I have ordered new fridge freezer, this is being delivered on the 7 July - so will be trying to use up food from the existing freezer - may be some strange combos!

We're not away this weekend and DH has a meeting tomorrow, he will be away from 11am until 5-6pm - so hoping to use this time to start de-pit of DS's bedrooms - this is a big job - both have cabin beds, DS1 now getting too big/tall for his so need to completely de-pit the room, take the bed to pieces, strip the walls (room is papered floor to ceiling), re-decorate, buy new bed and possibly carpet, and DS2's room needs the same, although his room is not papered just painted - think we've got a busy few months ahead.

Need to crack on otherwise I'll be on here too long.

Have a great Friday everyone, be careful in the sun - it's supposed to be getting warm.

Not much else to say really, keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.
