Clearing house of furniture/belongings before completion - standard or not?

Can you not get one those house clearance blokes in, he will give you next to nothing for the stuff, just look on it as moving stuff for nothing, and any cash you get is a bonus.0

I've heard a story of someone putting "free" on stuff out front and it never moved. So he put "for sale - £20" on it and it was nicked within minutes - people love a bargain!0 -
I've been in the vendors' position and we cleared everything out - I don't remember any kind of discussion or negotiation with the buyers about that (although one potential buyer fell in love with a tv set which was on its way to the tip and made keeping it a condition of her offer
).
I just assumed we'd need to clear everything out for the new owners, and did exactly that. Like I'd do if I was selling a place I was living in.
KateLiana27 - If a potential buyer had wanted to negotiate/confirm we'd be clearing it all out, I wouldn't have been offended at all; it's a fair and reasonable question, imo. I wouldn't have thought twice about it. If you're concerned about it, I'd say just ask.0 -
I've also been in the vendor's position, and we cleared it (prior to completion in our case).
I would expect to be done on moving day at the latest, but just ask your solicitor to confirm first.0 -
When I sold my grandmothers house I was advised to keep furniture in for viewings but after exchange I arranged to clear the house. On a side note it was agreed that the sellers could store items after exchange but before completion at there own risk. As the house was empty it was not a big deal, I just had them sign a document drawn up by solicitors to cover the insurance. This made the very long house chain they were selling in go much more smoothly.
I ended up leaving white goods as they were coming from a fitted kitchen to one which was not. They seemed delighted and it saved me the hassle of moving it.

I purchased a probate property in December. Asked the vendors to empty the property, which they happily did for me. (wasn't full of antiques either). I also viewed the house the day before exchange to confirm if had been cleared. Vendor had no problem with that at all.0
