Yep I think I slipped the net with that one before everything got tightened up.I make jewellery now but not to order. Hubby says if I fell in the Thames Id come out dry with a fish in each pocket. Its a pity there are so many problems for people who are after all only trying to run a business

Nothing has changed except that buyers now can leave stars. If you were selling before the stars came into force then most people by default would have left a positive. They are still leaving a positive but just hitting the stars.

As you can see the stars ask "How quickly did the seller dispatch the item", so that's where bespoke items will hit the buffer. It makes no mention of whether the despatch time was as per the listing.

without mentioning that many buyers will rate the time it's taken from paying to the postman ringing their door bell... thus it's 50% how quickly you post and 50% rating Royal Mail's performance....

Also a huge number wont as well. I rate people on their listed dispatch time and normally look at the post mark for the date.

As Soolin mentioned before we all have the same pool of buyers and a large majority of sellers easily keep their DSRs within ebay acceptable limits. So if as has been theorised buyers dont understand DSRs all sellers would be below limits and have suspended accounts.

Just a point on the buyers understanding of stars, my items tend to be larger value one off purchases and the majority of my customers on ebay have little experience so to speak, many have single figures. To that end the question 'how quickly did the seller dispatch the item' is a real killer and seriously needs addressing. If someone asked me that and it took 12 days, theres no way I would rate it 5 stars regardless of whether it arrived quicker than their advertised 13-15 days. It could all be so easy if the question was ' Did the seller meet their advertised dispatch time' for example.

Oliver of course you know, and all of us posting on this forum do, it's the majority of ordinary buyers who don't know, and why should they know, they are on ebay to buy stuff not to learn how to score sellers...

It is well known that when there are issues that delay delivery, like the volcano, or bad weather like we had at xmas, sellers' stars will suffer.

The problem is that under the DSR system it's those who give you low stars who count, even if the vast majority of buyers are happy with your dispatch times you'll be penalised.
It gives those people who don't understand the system a disproportionate effect on you account.
I like many others have been given low-ish stars even when posting the same day. 3 stars when the item is at the PO within a couple of hours does not make sense.

I would not mind at all if the system penalised you for posting late, rather than for the odd occasion someone is not happy with RM's performance....
