Furious about Credit Card fees on a Thomson Holiday Booking
Comments
-
Merchant companies charge a percentage to the retailer for credit card payments, yet usually charge a set fee for debit card payments. With smaller transactions many companies will absorb the credit card fees. So Thomson are just passing on the cost.
On the other hand with debit cards the retailer only pays a small fee which varies from about 35p to about 50p depending on the merchant company. This is why some shops insist on you spending over £5 for debit cards, because 35p could be a big percentage on smaller payments.
I would suggest that the OP contacts Thomson customer services, and ask id you could replace the payment with a debit card payment, and then get them to refund the credit card payment. But be nice to them on the phone, because I doubt that this will be the normal procedure, and I doubt that they will put themselves out for you if you scream and shout.0 -
With the advent of things like ITA Matrix and Sky Scanner things like RTW tickets and multi cities are simple and have rendered travel agents all but useless.
Skyscanner won't help you with a RTW ticket at all. There are indeed online tools, better than Matrix indeed, but you still need a travel agent (or the airline) to actually book the ticket.Thomas cook airlines have now opened the gate for cheap travel to all the usual tourist locations in and around the med where scheduled airlines other than national carriers don't fly.
Not only Thomas Cook, but Monarch and Thomson too. All the big high street travel agents sell their flights direct online too.Charter flights will rarely, and I'm talking extremely rarely be the cheapest option Long Haul.
Not true at all. I picked a random example LGW-CUN, Thomson will give you two weeks in December from £355. The cheapest BA fare is £675. Likewise Orlando, (from) under £300 on a charter, £565 on BA (although in the sale that would go down to £400)I would go as far to say that the only time you will get a half decent deal with a Travel Agent is when you book last minute as in - 5 days. Even then it would be touch and go.
You just need to know what you are doing. A deal is a deal no matter where it comes from.0 -

There are probably several levels of knowing what you are doing when it comes to booking travel/flights.
Imagine the Travel Agents are at the bottom end and the people who use them Number 1. Imagine your knowledge at number 3 and mine at number 10.
I simply do not have the time to prove this to you but believe it. I could beat your price for a holiday probably 99% of the time.
Unfortunately I do not have the time. Unless you could help me on a matter I have been pondering over for the past couple of hours;
Andaman Islands or Lakshadweep?
In August.0 -
Andaman Islands or Lakshadweep?
In August.
Should I buy my rupees now or wait for a better deal ?
I love this reading between the lines idea
& does Lakshwadeep airport have proper English beer, or that foreign muck.
I trust that you're keeping well
& more importanatly, can you get a full English breakfast for under 4 euros ?
as I said on another thread, its good to hear a view that differs from the masses0 -

no way Jose.
I'm truly shocked that you should make such a suggestion.
My flabbers are gasted.
My timbers are shivered.
What could possibly have led you down the path of all that is right and proper in this world for you to make such a scurillous suggestion0 -

It is of course mere speculation and completely untrue.0 -
