Credit check for upgrade

When upgrading an existing phone contract, currently (certainly at least with T-Mobile) no re-check of credit score is performed. Does anyone know whether this is still the case if you were to upgrade with the same supplier, but through a 3rd party such as the carphone warehouse (for example)?

Direct with a network they probably wont do a credit check unless you are going for a contract that is alot more expencive than your current one.
if you do an upgrade through a 3rd party it will be handled differenty, there *could* be 2 credit checks, the 3rd party will more than likely do a credit check as they are the ones handing over a phone, then once they pass it on to the network they may or may not do a check also, depending on what your history is like with them.
Either way going via a 3rd party you are more than likely to be credit checked atleast once.0 -
if you are upgrading with the same network no matter who it is with you should not be credit checked again unless taking out a second contract0

You can be credit checked by your current supplier even when a service like international roaming.
Anytime you are taking more credit from them they will likely do a check.0 -
3rd party is likely to ID check - doubtful that they will credit check. All depends on systems but so long as the retailer is on line with the network then you should be fine.0

I guess we're in the difference between "could be" and "will be". I've recently completed an IVA, and all during it i was able to upgrade directly with my current phone supplier with no check. That including last year when i upgraded to a significantly more expensive contract (more expensive in terms of monthly fee, with the inclusive minutes it saved me money overall). So I guess in practice they could have credit checked me, but usually won't?
Just happened to see on the phones4u website they advertise no credit check with upgrades, but the same banner only shows upgrades for vodafone, O2 and Orange, not T-Mobile who I am with..0 -
Phones4u direct don't sell Tmo, in fact I don't even know if the stores do. P4u definitely do not credit check on u/g, they will do an ID check using a debit or credit card.0

Carphonewarehouse and buymobilephones don't credit check for upgrades either0
