If you do buy one, you can book into a free workshop at your local Apple store where they go through all of the functions. The ipad itself is very intuitive, so I didn't really learn that much more than I could have found out for myself, but I like to know that there isn't anything major I'm missing out on, so was quite useful in that respect.
At the risk of sounding pathetic, I do actually LOVE mine - sometimes I even give it a hug because it's so gorgeous!! :A(I'm a girl though!):D0 -
Thanks, to be honest I am not sure how he will use it. I suspect only as storage for pictures, surfing the net whilst away on business without having to pay hotel prices for a net connection, the same usage as a laptop, little more than that really. He saw one a friend had last week and remarked on how good it seemed, I suspect from what you have said it was an Ipad 2 as his friend said it was £600.
From what you have said it seems that the one I mentioned would be sufficient, but if it is not the same as the one he saw I wouldn't want him to be disappointed ifyswim.
OOh decisions!
Personally I would go with the ipad 2 over the ipad 1. If he already has an android smartphone or iphone then he could tether the ipad to it thus making 3g redundant which is what I do with mine on a payg all you can eat tariff for £15 a month which saves having to pay out for two sim cards. the ipad 2 is also more futureproof because it has twice the amount of ram and also a dual core processor compared to the original ipadIt's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0 -

If you're not sure what the difference is between the ipad 1 and 2 then you need to get the ipad1. Buyitall stated the hardware differences but other than that, it was just a money making exercise bringing the ipad2 out and it has obviously worked when Buyitall said, "Personally, I would not buy an older model of something as a gift for someone". This is what they are relying on. Very much like the iphone 4. The iphonme 3gs is a better phone, the 4 was riddled with problewms yet everyone just "has" to have the latest one.0

You could say the same about any tech products - TVs, DVD players, laptops. Would you rather have the latest, or the 2009 version of a TV?
Very perceptive that you can see through this money making exercise!
Plus the iPhone 4 is a vast improvement over the 3GS. It's not a case of everyone buying one just to look cool. It's better. End of.0 -

If you fancy a refurbished ipad first edition, 64gb wifi, with 12 months warranty, you can get one from Dixons at the moment. The link will show it at £449, but once you've got to the checkout it will show as £336.75.0 -
If he has a Blackberry Curve should he not be buying a Blackberry Playbook - their iPad rival?0

Not if he has any sense. Here is a link to my thread giving a further link to a review by the Guardian.

Also read a review on HTC's new tablet today, also gets poor reviews, and costs the same as iPad 2."We can all fly as high as the dreams we dare to live...........unless we are a chicken" ~ Anon.0 -

Noone said it was but the 3gs was better according to numerous reviews. End of.0 -

I don't really understand your first point. Are you saying you just buy the first product you come across cos you don't really know how it compares to anything else on the market?
If you read the original post, the OP wasn't aware of the differences between the Ipad and Ipad 2. Now that she is she can make a more informed decision.
Uhh, johnnyboyrebel said the 3GS was better. I would be interested in reading those 'numerous' reviews stating that, Care to share?
I would also be interested to hear from anyone who gave up an Iphone 4 to go back to a 3GS. Not many, I fear.0
