Contactless payment

I've been to 2 McDonalds now with my credit card and neither have picked up on the fact it can do the 'contactless' payment, both just asked me to enter my card as normal and put my PIN in!

So how do I go about trying out the contactless technology in McDs? (They do have it in these branches, it is advertised on the tills). The contactless symbol appears on the Chip and Pin reader when I put it in the reader so do I just 'hover' it nearby next time rather than insert my card and PIN?

Why not ask them? It may be installed but not yet be operational.

Ok. Some mc donalds are able to accept contactless payments. I had this problem. when they ask you to pay you tell them credit card. if the contactless sign comes up on the screen of the POS card machine then tap your card on it. it will either approve, decline or do a random bank security check which results in chip and pin payment or decline! mc donalds are currently updating the software on their tills to make contactless work but dont bother asking the staff. in the 4 mc donalds i asked not even the managers knew about this. they are mostly thick as thieves when it comes to this in mc donalds. I tried to use my usa credit card in there and I got told it was only chip and pin even though they can't say that.

Total idiots mc donald staff... well most of them anyway. I attempted to get mcdonalds PR to discuss the matter but no luck.

Tried my MBNA contactless mastercard yesterday for the first time at McD's. The guy said put your card in and I said its contact less, he then looked blank but I could see the contact less panel at the top of the card reader. Tried tapping it against that and nothing. Tried again and held it against the card reader panel at the top for a few seconds and it beeped and that was it. No pin, no receipt, and much quicker. Its the future man :)

I don't like the idea of not getting a receipt. I always ask for the receipt and keep it for 3 months after the statement is produced.

i had this in subway down near regent street, i was on my break popped in and used my contactless credit card. All was fine.

6 hours later i popped in again only to be told we only accept chip and pin. I said "i used in here this morning". she replied with an informative "we only accept chip & pin", she just repeated herself not even acknowledging what i said.

I haven't found many places to use it to be honest, seems most useful in food shops considering the £15 limit.

Why? Once it's on your statement and reconciled the item's closed :)

If there's not an issue then your statement is the "proof" :D

The quality of proof is not as good.

It's kind of a moot point though isn't it? It's not like you're going to be taking your footlong sub back and asking for a refund. As far as I know receipts are available on request anyway

I have Autism, I keep lots of things as I'm fussy about record keeping. I have spreadsheets for this, spreadsheets for that and so on. And, they actually really do help me keep track of my finances.
