Hi
I currently have a pay monthly contract with O2 which i have had for over 10 years, never missed a payment etc.
I want an Iphone 4 but on a new contract so i can get the phone free. O2 said i could get a new one with them and then transfer my current number over to my new O2 contract.
So i applied online through Phones4u and Carphone Warehouse, both orders have been declined! And i cannot get a proper answer why!
I have ordered my credit report through Equifax to check it and there is nothing wrong with it at all and i have a good crediting rating.
So i thought i would try with Vodafone - same thing - i have been declined!
Can anyone offer any advice on why this would be?!?!
Thanks

However i have recently changed my address with the bank to match my new address - maybe it is somethting to do with this - maybe they haven't updated it? I will check that out...
    Thanks

You might want to double-check what O2 have told you -

If you are not taking the phone as an upgrade, but taking a new contract, they will need to cease your old line otherwise you will be paying 2 lots of line rental.

Once a number has been ceased, it goes into an reallocation pool for at least 90 days before it can be re-used again.

The only way, to my knowledge, of transferring a live number from one SIM to another is to port it out to another network and then port it back in.

If your current contract is direct with O2 why on earth are you involving a third party instead of continuing to deal direct? I agree double check what they are telling you.

From your file you can see that you have a good history. You can only guess that you have a good rating as the way companies score you varies.
Are you sure that they used Equifax, not some other agency?
Are you sure that you/they entered all the information correctly? One letter cam make a huge difference.
So can do a recently changed address, not being registered on the electoral roll etc.

Every application gets recorded in the file(s) and negatively affects you scoring for several months.

No,you can swap it over.I did when I went from P&G to the 30 day 'Simplicity Sim)

Your address on the account must match up with your bank details or the credit will decline. (I worked in O2 Migrations in 2010)
What has more than likely happened to you is that when you failed the first credit check, either with a CRA or O2's own credit dept, you then went & tried again, which goes against you & increases the likelyhood of a refusal. (From what I remember from processing migration orders for O2)

I am involving a third party as to upgrade on my current contract will cost me the price of a handset. Therefore it is better for me to take out a new contract.

I have spoken to 2/3 different people at O2 now. They have advised me that as i am now on a 30 day rolling contract with them, once i received my new contract and telephone number i am to ring them and they will transfer my current number over to my new contract. Apparently this is a form they can fill in there which many of the third parties are not aware of, which is why the third parties advise you that you cannot transfer a number over to the same provider.
Due to the terms of my current contract, i will only be paying 2 lots of line rental for about 24 hours.

However, all this has no bearing on why i should not be able to get a new contract with a different provider ie. Vodafone.....

I was advised by Equifax that i had a good credit rating.
I agree that it is the way that companies score you, however - no defaults, no late payments, number of credit applications, being approved for other items (credit cards) recently - would usually not result in an application being denied.

O2 definately use Equifax - not sure about Vodafone.

Am registered on electoral roll. Changed address a year ago and have provided previous addresses which match that on my credit file.

Equifax provide your credit record, they do NOT provide a credit rating or score, thats done by the company taking you on.

Any "credit score" is Equifax's view, and will not be used by the company you are applying to , they will take your record and make there own score or judgement.
