How have you paid for these things up to now?0 -
When you do get JSA, if you are still living at home you should be giving most of it to your mother for your keep anyway.johnconnor wrote: »I am 19 years old also and I am unable to claim JSA as my mum is receiving child benefit. I would suggest a job is needed to pay for luxury items like driving lessons0

ok people you dont want to make it a lie. fine. send your child to their grans for a week have a big argument with son about his spending and then phone up child benefits as you have kicked him out.
they will stop payments. end of. job done
then meet up with your child ad say he can come back home all is forgiven. there job done!
now your son is in a situation where he is jobless in no receipt of income and should apply for jobseekers as he is looking for a job.
there job done..
silly people that think that stopping a benefit is fraud.. SERIOUSLY!!!! come on on wake up and smell the coffee.
making a claim for jobseekers is a claim on circumstances as of the date of claim.. so whether you kicked out son for a year, a day or even 2 hours it is meaningless to them.
the financial status of your son at time of making a JSA claim and the future is what they care about.
i seriously laughed when someone said that stopping a child benefit claim was a bad idea. you honestly think the benefits office would do a check up on circumstances because your requesting to stop a claim?? seriously?
circumstances for stopping a child benefit claim does not affect JSA one bit. all they care about is that sone is not in receipt of income.
and also thinking just because you say you kicked son out they are heartless to think that you will never let them come home again.
of course saying your son moved back in is a reasonable scenario. they expect families to have the heart to reunite relatives back to their home.
all i was saying is you dont actually have to go through the argument and distress of physically kicking him out to achieve this. but if you want to argue with you son and kick him out just to be honest for no good reason. please feel free to do so.0 -

your mum receives child benefit. well £20 a week.
cornflakes costs £2, milk £2= breakfast is covered.
bread =£1 processed sliced ham= £1.50 and a jar of pickle = lunch is covered.
bag of potatos £1 and ownbranded minced meat £2 and a tin of peas=tea covered.
all for about £10-£12 a week MAX that leaves you £8 a week atleast.
now my suggestion is google "fruit of the loom Tshirts" are about £2 so buying 4 of these is enough to add to your wardrob and would last you 150 days of use. so one months spare money would buy you a years supply of shirts possibly 2 years if you dont rip them.
the other 11 months of £8 can be used as you please,
you just got to learn to budget. or get mum to stop receiving child benefit.. as advised to OP on a method thats legally sound. and then when you receive JSA in a few weeks pay her £20 a week and you keep the rest.
dont waste the money at mcdonalds waste it on saving up for a bike or a bus season ticket to get to work. once in work then get your driving lessons started0 -

Ok thanks everyone for your honest replies. My mum uses child benefits to cover other costs such as bills and loans that my brother decided to rally out when he was younger. Up until now I was able to cover myself for lessons and food through ema. Also I am in the hunt for any kind of job. Thanks again for all your help.0

if you cancel child benefit.. and claim JSA remember to do the good think of paying your mum £20 a week.
call it your rent if u want
that way she aint out of pocket.
and as there is still some JSA left over your in pocket too.
i personally believe that child benefit should stop at the september following childs 16th birthday. and then either EMA kicks in if they continue with education.
or the only other option is the 16-19yo goes onto a princes trust type scheme to earn benefits at a young age.
then JSA kicks in at 19+..... but thats just me and a hair brained idea0
