Sky v BT

Options
Ok folks, with BT total broadband paying approx £25 a month for unlimited broadband and have been for more years then I can remember. Never really had any problems with them over time and when I have it's always (suprise) been sorted quickly without hassle. I also pay Tesco for the landline around £15-£20 per month depending on useage (which is minimal and usually no calls).

Sky have offered me their broadband with unlimited downloads, landline with free 60 min calls all day even to my daughter in Australia and a few other add on's for £1 a month more.

Clearly I am saving dosh here as I can give up the tesco landine.

However my major problem here is the 'devil you know'. As I've said I've never had any problems with BT, even a few months back I asked via Twitter why my router kept rebooting itself. The reply was 'sounds like it's broken, we'll send a new one out tomorrow, which they did and follow up check via twitter to make sure it arrived and all ok.

So, change and save money and hope Sky is as good or stick with what I know.

In this house there is 2 x-box, 2 laptops and a desktop so unlimted download is a must.

Any thoughts please?

Thanks

If you can get SKY LLU you may aswell go with them.

If you want then just stay with BT it will just be the same service.

    But tesco landline lol.

if it is the Sky LLU option then it is pretty good and runs on ADSL2+ so could be quicker than your current BT offering if you are not on a upgraded exchange and so are still using the ADSLmax service at upto 8mb

    http://www.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_checker

whack your details in there and it should give you a bit more information on whats at your exchange.

but anyways i have been with Sky LLU for quite a few years now (3 or 4) and havent really had any problems with them.

PLEASE NOTE if it is not their LLU offering do not touch it as Sky connect is shocking!

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

We've had Sky broadband for a while now but kept our BT phone.
However, we've just arranged to switch the phone to Sky too - BT were basically ripping us off and we woke up to it.

I'm paying BT about £25 per month in total for Option 3 broadband, line rental, and unlimited anytime calls on a 12 month contract.
It might be worth giving them a call to see what they can offer before you decide.

I'm on BT Infinity £28 + Line Rental (Payed as lump sum so ~£10pm)

For that I get 40Mb / 10Mb , Unlimited DL and Unlimited Calls All Day Every Day (18 Mth Contract)

I hear you there, BT sucks! I used to work there years ago and there are allsorts of services that have changed or gone down in price yet the customers using them will still pay the higher price. We were trained to never mention the newer, cheaper services and they would only be changed on the customers account at their own request but as they were rarely advertised, noone knew about them. For anyone using BT now, I would do some research into what you are paying and how much you should be paying!

I am with Sky, the good thing for me is as I have SKY TV the unlimited internet is near enough peanuts and the line rental £2 cheaper than BT's "Option 1" (if it is still called this) I use the landline once in a blue moon so dont have any calls thrown in as it would be pointless (do people still use their landline phones??)

What is BT Infinity, is that the weird kind of "poor mans" sky tv? If so my mother has got it in her house. Is it a kind of router with a cradle for the handset? If so, hers has a totally different number to the landline which baffles me. I told her to call BT and check shes not paying 2 line rentals as if she is, thats a !!!! take on BT's behalf.

    :rotfl:

I have SKY Tv seperately, Infinity is super fast broadband - FTTC (Fibre to the cabinet)

Rather than connecting to your local exchange, you connect to a green cabinet usually within a few hundred yards of your house.

This allows you to receive speeds similar or higher than cable suppliers while still using the existing bt line.

They are trialing FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) which will allow people to get upto 100Mb.

Thanks people for your input, will have a good think about it and see where it takes me.

gonzo127 - Checked the site and it has a green tick against Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU, so I guess I'm enabled in this area.

Will probably have a look at the Sky website and see whats what etc.

Its called BT Vision and it isnt trying to be Sky satellite services at all. Its just the freeview channels and on demand and the facility to record.

Ive had it since it started and its fine and never had any problems with the phone nor me broadband really.
