Car auctions - complete newbie

Also it depends of the car sells. It might not get near the reserve price etc.
Though to be honest, when ever a private buyer is in the ring the auctioneer generally gets the prices higher anyway...0 -
i wander how much delivery would be from colchester to bristol
so things are mounting up and the details
- buyers fee
- risk of mechanical, and thought maybe stick a third party warranty
- details of mot, tax, v5, insurance
i already know my insurance company don't deal with emails through this broker0 -

yes but what if they cant get in touch with seller because reserve not met
buyer left good deposit

Auctions are a gamble if you don't really know what you are looking for, fault wise or you don't have the means to do repairs yourself. The risk can either pay off or not. I think a lot of people like the idea of buying from an auction because they think they can get a 10k car for 6-7k but the reality is sometimes different.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0

at this stage a sensible person would have realised its not a good proposition
good luck by the way
you do have go
lets just hope the car has once hammer comes down0 -
thanks, this morning i was seriously considering it, but weighing up
- day off work
- cost of travel 200+ round trip
- if won the bid, would need delivery or go collect
- fees and traders pushing up the price on what i'm prepared for it to go and according to another source CAP clean and average price is what I was looking max, so if traders are hovering around this price and adding in the above, just not worth it0 -

This is a point worth mentioning.
Don't buy any car entered privately at Manheim, ex fleet only or main dealer part ex, i believe CC Trade sales are WeBuyAnyCar getting rid of the shrapnel.
There are better auctions to buy cheap stuff than Manhiem.
To be honest OP i would stick to dealers or private sales with someone along to check.the car.
auctions are no place for a newbie, though an ex fleet car is an ex fleet car, some were serviced within a month or so of being auctioned.
Prepare to battle against the regulars for any decent BMWs though. Especially at Manhiem Colchester.0 -

Try BCA they have an auction in Blackbushe and there is a place near Cardiff that sells lots of ex fleet stuff, i think the have a web page called the auctioneers or something, a mate bought a couple of Ambulances for his event firm.there.
I didn't realise you were in Bristol, don't waste your time going to Colchester, full of London traders who buy up all the prestige stuff, you will also find the futher you get from London the prices vary a bit, though not always lower, some stuff gets more expensive.0 -
If you really must get one from an auction, consider using an auction buyer. Try googling joe dowd.
He'll pay trade commission (lower than you'll pay), which means that it becomes worth it, especially as you don't have to take the day off work. He also knows what to pay and won't be taken to the cleaners.0
